Old Highwood sits in the Blackdown Hills National Landscape, a short drive from Honiton. This converted barn comes with everything needed for self-catering: a kitchen fitted with electric oven, gas hob, dishwasher and fridge; heating and hot water; bed linen and towels; and WiFi throughout. The ground floor is open plan, combining kitchen, dining and living space with a Freeview Smart TV, flowing into a rear garden with patio, seating and a private six-person hot tub.

Upstairs, two double bedrooms each have their own ensuite bathroom. The first has a walk-in shower and a Juliet balcony overlooking fields towards woodland. The second has a shower cubicle. Both beds can be configured as twin singles if needed. There is parking for two cars and a separate toilet on the ground floor. The property is no-smoking throughout. The garden has three steps, and the entrance itself is level with a single step.

The location works well for exploring the Blackdown Hills, the coast, and the moorland beyond. Honiton itself is within reach for supplies and amenities.

We stayed here while travelling to the Lewis Capaldi concert at Exeter Castle, and it was the perfect base—only about a 40-minute drive away. The setting is absolutely beautiful, tucked away on a peaceful farm with stunning surroundings. The hot tub was a real highlight and the perfect way to relax after the concert. The accommodation itself was spotless, stylishly furnished, and incredibly well equipped. There were books, an Xbox, a coffee pod machine, a BBQ, and so many thoughtful touches that made our stay feel special. We were also welcomed with complimentary fresh farm eggs and milk, which was a lovely personal touch. You can tell the hosts have genuinely thought of everything. We'd happily stay again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing countryside getaway with excellent facilities.

We had a very relaxing week in Hog End cottage in July 2025. Our stay was generally quiet and peaceful, although nobody was staying in the adjoining cottages, and there was some noise early in the morning from the working farm next door, even on the weekend. Generally the cottage is nicely decorated and well-appointed, although both the bed and (especially) the sofa were rather hard and uncomfortable. The cottage was generally clean and in good repair, but there was quite a bit of dust and cobwebs, and some damaged fixtures and fittings, e.g. a cracked downstairs toilet. The biggest issue we had during our stay was a very poor internet connection: despite being advertised as having wifi, at times it was impossible to perform a simple Google search, and uploading pictures to social media and streaming audio and video was basically impossible. The area also has a very poor mobile signal, which led to a lot of frustration as we tried to plan our daily activities. Still, there is lots to do in the area, and relaxing in the hot tub at the end of the day was bliss. _____ I am updating my initial review (unchanged, above) in response to the owner's subsequent reply. I'd left a fair and balanced review in the twin hope that the feedback would be useful both to the owner and to future guests. In general the owners have a very good product, but it is let down by a few areas which could be quite easily fixed. The cottage was generally clean and tidy, but really could benefit from a proper deep clean. It's good to see that the cottage listing will be updated to reflect the poor internet connection - both mobile signal and wifi. It became evident during our stay that the owner's property and the three holiday cottages were all sharing wifi provided by a single mobile dongle, which clearly isn't up to the job (see attached image of a speed test performed while connected to the cottage wifi). I'm also somewhat confused by the owner's comments about additional visitors to the cottage - there were only two of us resident for the duration of our week's stay, and we received no visitors at any point. In line with this, my comments about the sofa reflect its function and comfort as a sofa, not as a bed.

The cottage was stunning, pictures do not do it any justice! All the extra touches did not go unnoticed. Came away for a girls trip of a birthday celebration & relaxation and it was exactly that. Being located in a quiet area surrounded by farm animals was an added bonus. Very modern and very clean. Great service from the owner when needing extra assistance. Will be returning! 🥰 Thank you Julie.

We had a beautiful stay in the Piglet cottage over the Easter weekend. The cottage was clean and so well equipped. Me & my partner came with our 3 daughters and found it very suitable. Their was a highchair, a swing, plastic cups and plates, games, dvds, books and an xbox. These little touches really pleased the girls and kept them entertained. There was 1 single bedroom, one double bedroom & 1 kingsize so plenty of room. We added a continental breakfast and had pastries, fruit, bread, fresh eggs from the chickens just over the garden, overnight oats, butter and jams, also 3 creme eggs which was lovely. The hot tub was a huge hit! We were definitely sad to leave and hope to return one day soon.. highly recommend for a relaxing and cosy break. Natalie & Terry x
