Photo: The Mansion Cottage

This detached cottage dates from the late 17th or early 18th century and retains much of its original character—exposed oak frame, low ceilings and doorways that reflect the building's age. The Mansion Cottage stands alone in a large unfenced garden, with parking for two cars and space for a bike store. One well-behaved dog stays free.

Two bedrooms sleep four: a kingsize upstairs alongside a room with two single beds. The bathroom has a bath and cubicle shower. Downstairs, the living room has a woodburner and smart TV, while the kitchen/dining space includes a dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer, so catering for a week is straightforward. Essentials like electricity, Wi-Fi, bed linen and towels are included. No smoking throughout.

Horncastle itself is 6 miles away; Lincoln and the Lincolnshire coast are roughly 20–25 miles distant. Local walks start from the cottage. Be aware that stairs are steep and narrow. Check-in is after 15:00 and checkout before 09:30.

A comfortable, well-equipped cottage in a peaceful location... it's just a shame about the smell! It hit us as soon as we walked in. Apparently a previous occupant had spilt cream in the fridge, and this hadn't been dealt with sufficiently so had developed into the most unpleasant odour. A few tactically placed air fresheners from the owners were no match for what was growing in the depths of the fridge. Despite messaging the owner nothing was done to remedy the situation, so we decided to clean it the best we could ourselves to make it at least palatable.

A beautiful country cottage. Very welcoming and great for a relaxing break. Highly recommended.

Loved it, enjoyed the peace and rural location. Local shop and pub would be an asset to a lovely villiage, locals very friendly and dogs loved it to. Enclosed area for the dogs would have been nice as the garden was open to the road and adjoining cow field. Facilities good, everything we needed. Great week.

Absolutely perfect home from home in a most peaceful area. We were sad to leave. There is great attention to all the small details that some holiday places overlook. On arrival the cottage was spotless we were welcomed with a radio softly playing and a light on. Our dogs had some doggie treats and we had luscious lemon cake with tea or coffee a pint of milk had already been left in the fridge. Because of covid it is hard to find places to eat out without a booking but that's not a problem at the cottage there is a freezer with quality meals from The Mansion Farm that you can heat and eat. We had also organised a veggie box and other food also from Mansion Farm the Lincolnshire sausage, bacon and eggs were delicious. There really isn't anything that this cottage doesn't have the owners have obviously thought about every single detail. I can see why so many people come back time and time again. Thank you
