Hydro Hotel Eastbourne

We stayed at the Hydro Hotel for a couple of nights towards the end of July. The Hotel and grounds were extremely well kept. Staff were friendly and helpful. Our room 306 was very clean & tidy and well laid out. However, it did lack plug points (only 4) which were already used by light, fridge, TV and fan. None of the sockets had USB sockets. Probably best to take multi adapter or wander lead. None of the rooms have air conditioning as it is an older hotel. Breakfast was fine with a good choice although at times they were slow to replace items. Cooked breakfast is ordered and waiter served. Probably the main disappointment was the Conservatory restaurant. We ordered our main evening meal which arrived over 35 minutes after ordering. The food was of a good standard but arrived just barely warm with the pepper sauce having a skin on top of the sauce. The waitress did offer to take it back but we didn't feel up to waiting another 30 minutes for a new meal. It had been our intention to use the Hotels restaurants but after that experience we went into Eastbourne for our evening meal. Suggest you ask when ordering, will the meal be served hot.

Stayed at the Hydro this past weekend for a relative’s 80th birthday. The hotel itself was lovely. A charming, slightly dated Victorian building with plenty of character. The beds were extremely comfortable, and the food was of a very high standard. My only issue with the room was the weak shower water pressure. We were a group of 19, and although I understand accommodating a large party can be difficult, the restaurant staff were initially quite reluctant to let us sit together. To their credit, they eventually found a way to make it work. Unfortunately, the service throughout the weekend felt a little uncomfortable. One waitress was particularly insistent on getting us to sign for bottles of wine during dinner, repeatedly interrupting conversations despite being told we would do it shortly. It felt unnecessarily pushy and a little overbearing. Several members of the waiting staff also seemed noticeably on edge, which affected the atmosphere. At breakfast, after asking if I wanted brown sauce or ketchup, a waiter leaned right over me to spoon it onto my plate, which felt unnecessarily intrusive and rather awkward. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and the hotel has a lot going for it, but the service could have been more relaxed and personable.

I absolutely loved the sea views, from the outdoor wedding, rooms and restaurant. We went to a wedding which was outdoors, it was perfect, the contrast of the blue skies, the crystal clear turquoise waters and green grass looked absolutely stunning. Never thought Eastbourne could look so beautiful.

We came here for lunch and had a really enjoyable experience. It’s great value for money and has that lovely ‘time stood still’ hotel charm, which really adds to the atmosphere. Emily was our main host and did a fantastic job 👏 The food, setting and service were all excellent value for money.
