The Cavendish Hotel Eastbourne

We were given 2 tiny single rooms with no windows. They were too small, hot, stuffy and very claustrophobic. I asked the lovely lady at reception to change our rooms and she politely and professionally upgraded us to 2 double rooms with windows that are roomy and very comfortable. I am very happy and impressed so far 😁

This hotel desperately needs a lot of money spending on it. The staff are all miserable and when you greet them with a hello they look at you like you've spoken an alien language !!! The room was very dated and very grubby. I don't think the windowsills had been cleaned for weeks. Wallpaper peeling off the wall and obviously a new TV had been hung on the wall and they hadn't bothered painting the wall underneath to cover the dirty wallpaper where the old TV had been. The first night it was like a sauna in the room. So I turned tha radiators off and opened the secondary double glazing to let some air in. I got woken at 5.00am by wind howling through the window and under the main room door which was also banging the loft hatch on the bathroom ceiling. I couldn't close the glazing so had to shove a towel under the door to stop the through draft. The 3 days I was there, no one came in to make the bed or refresh my tea and coffee sachets. I really should have looked at the 3 star rating and reviews before I booked. I also asked for a ground floor room as I have mobility issues and they put me on Floor 1. Which is in fact the 2nd floor. They don't even have any ground floor rooms !!! The second day the lift wasn't working so i had to hobble down 4 flights of stairs to get to reception. When I mentioned the lift to the staff on the desk I had a very curt reply of 'yes we know, you can use the staff lift if you have to' I thought i would try this hotel as it was closer to where I needed to be, but next time I am going back to my good old faithful Premier Inn where everything is clean and fresh and the staff are super friendly.

All I can say is the location was good. Room was dirty and smelt of wet dog. We asked for a fan for the room the day we got there and the second day and still didn’t get one. Room was very hot with only a tiny window that opened about 4 inches. Breakfast was ok. I usually read reviews before booking but it was a last minute decision but that’s no excuse for dirty rooms.

Very good price for a good size room, even if no window room or no air conditioning, it was ok. Bed could've been tiny bit bigger to match the matress size. Bathroom very good size and clean. All in all good experience.
