Halse Farm Caravan & Camping Site

Winsford, Minehead TA24 7JL, UK

Small family-run hilltop site above Winsford with big moorland views

About Halse Farm Caravan & Camping Site

Halse Farm sits on a level hilltop a mile above Winsford village, where open moorland meets the gate and views sweep for miles across Exmoor's rolling hills. This small, family-run site has generous pitch spacing and a genuinely peaceful atmosphere—come for birdsong, dark skies and the occasional sighting of Exmoor ponies or red deer rather than any entertainment. The heated toilet block is clean and well maintained, with free hot showers, and there's a small play area plus an information room stocked with local walking leaflets.

Pitches suit touring caravans, motorhomes and tents, many with electric hook-up. Footpaths lead straight onto Winsford Hill or down to the ancient clapper bridge at Tarr Steps, about three miles away. The site's position within the International Dark Sky Reserve makes it a favourite with stargazers. Winsford itself, a short walk downhill, has a village shop and the thatched Royal Oak for meals. Dogs welcome on leads. Open mid-April to late October—check exact dates if travelling at either end of the season.

Sussex View Electrical

A good location to visit Exmoor and surrounding areas. Wash / shower rooms are maintained to a high standard. There are plenty of electric hookups, book in advance. Winsford village is within walking distance via road or trails. Lovely church. Local shop next to inn. The Oak Inn has food. I definitely would revisit.

Stunning site with lovely views and so quiet with lots of great walks direct from site. Literally you walk out of the gate, cross the lane and you are onto a wide green path up onto the moors with fabulous views. Or the is a nice walk from site down through a pretty wood to the village. The facilities on site are just whats needed with nice hot showers with good water pressure. Would love to have stayed longer and hope to return.

It's a lovely site and very quiet, with stunning views, however getting to it from the main road with a caravan can be a little tight. Driving Instructions issued by the site are very good but fail to mention the very tight and narrow bends in the road from the village before the site. Toilet facilities, dish washing, tumble dryer and washing machine are excellent, there was an unpleasant smell from the gents but this might be because the black waste water area for emptying tanks is attached to the gents block.

Found this camp site on the web whilst traveling the South West. I have to day this place is a little gem. Owners friendly and amenities very clean. The site is separated into 2 fields, one being no electrical hookup the other more suited to caravans as this does have hookup. There is a shower toilet block and a laundry. Plenty of waste and recycling bins at the block. Fresh water is available on both fields and toilet cartridges can be emptied and cleaned by the waste bins. A very well thought out play area has been situated at the rear of the large field which is fenced off. This site is surrounded by fields and on the edge of moor. Lovely walks to be had and if you're fit suggest the mile decent to the wonderful of village Winsford, just up the hill past the church on your left follow the yellow markers up to the Punchbowl. The climb from the farm nestled in the valley is very long, be warned, this route now changes to the Blue Markers. Once at the top mid way round the Punchbowl take the track to the right, you should be able to hear the traffic. Walk down the moor and you will return back to the site. Will certainly be coming back.
