About Wimbleball Lake Campsite

Cradled by Exmoor's rolling hills, Wimbleball Lake Campsite offers staggering views and a gold-standard commitment to conservation – expect excellent birdwatching and the chance to spot long-eared brown bats at dusk. The shimmering waters and secluded inlets make this a fisherman's paradise (fly fishing only, licences available on site), while the lake itself is a playground for sailors, windsurfers, kayakers and paddleboarders. Well-designed trails thread the shoreline for walkers and cyclists, and there's a café serving cream teas when you need refuelling.

Facilities cover the basics – showers, family washrooms, electric and non-electric pitches on grass or hardstanding – though some areas can feel a little tired in places. Still, with a playground for children, dogs welcome year-round, and that exceptional natural setting, Wimbleball delivers a peaceful, remote escape into some of Somerset's most spectacular scenery.

Lovely setting but toilets were gross with broken door latches and toilet seat. Not enough fire pits to rent and when busy long queues for the toilet and washing facilities. Our cabin had dirty sheets and had not been cleaned properly before we stayed. They did come and change the sheets the following day. We were there a week and the playground was excellent and the fews nice, but the rest really let it down. Definitely not worth the price of the cabin. Cafe on site was really expensive too. Such a shame as it has amazing potential with a bit of investment.

A brilliant place to stay and do water sports. The lake is big but not scary. It's well managed by the staff, they take safety very seriously. We took one SUP and hired another, my niece was sailing for the day so much fun had by all. The campsite is very casual, no stress from anyone, self check in/out everyone just gets on with minimum fuss. The toilets/showers are excellent and are cleaned regularly. Highly recommend.

What a fantastic site!!! 2 minutes from the lake, good showers, clean toilets, nice hot pot wash and fire pit hire onsite Playground is great for keeping the kids occupied! Would benefit from an earlier check in time though, not sure why 4 hour changeover is needed between camping pitches 🤣
