About Chandos Premier Hotel Folkestone - Channel Tunnel

Cheriton Road runs through Folkestone within easy reach of the Channel Tunnel, making Chandos Premier Hotel a practical stop for anyone crossing to or from the continent, or exploring the surrounding Kent countryside and coastline. The hotel is a modest, family-run set-up with just 10 rooms, so it has none of the anonymity of a large chain hotel.

Rooms are kept simple and unfussy, with en-suite bathrooms available though some rooms share facilities, so it's worth checking which you've booked. Guests can expect drinks in the room, family rooms for those travelling together, and free WiFi throughout. Breakfast is served each morning, and there's a garden for some outdoor space, plus luggage storage for those breaking a journey. The hotel also doubles as a wedding venue.

Nearby, guests have golf and fishing on hand, along with pubs, bars, restaurants and entertainment within reach for evenings out. It suits travellers wanting a straightforward, no-frills base near the tunnel rather than a destination in itself.

A short wait after ringing the door bell the door was opened and I was welcomed in. The stench of dog and dog piss hit me like a brick. Made me gasp almost. I was in I needed the room so just took my key and was shown the room. I had a kettle, microwave and switched off fridge available. No tea making facilities. I checked the bed and sniffed it. It seemed clean enough. Then I went out of the evening. Back after a few pints and a meal in bed I had to suffer about half hour of the dogs responsible for the foul stench yapped relentlessly elsewhere in the building. They finally shut up and I slept. Yoy can see the photos of the shower in the morning. The dirty ones are before I used it. The clean ones are after. So not sure if it was just a huge amount of dust or if because I moved the plug hole blocker so the water would drain and not well up. Last week I stayed in Folkestone in a hotel £3 cheaper which was totally fine and brilliant for the money. When I'm back next week I'll be back to the original place.

The smell of dog when entering the building was both pungent and nauseating. It really does hit you when you walk in the walk through the door. A woman who lives there kept making accusation about the owner. The latch to my door lock had been removed from inside the room meaning I couldn't lock it and prevent anyone from entering my room in the middle of the night which didn't make me sleep well. I was in my room for less than 10 minutes before there was a knock on my door. When I opened it, the guest who lived there and her drug addict friend barged into my room and he was begging for £10. Check-in is 5pm which is late enough, yet I arrived at 6pm and still had to stand in the hallway for 30 minutes in that awful smell to wait for my key as it was broken and he had to cut a new one. When I was let into my room, one of his dogs followed us in which is not appropriate and the owner then tells me to put a good review on as "people are trying to ruin his business." I really don't think he gets it. I couldn't in good conscience recommend anyone staying here. Avoid at all costs.

We needed somewhere urgent to stay as all the premier inns were full. So we found this one. The door was opened by a man in his dressing gown with his chest and stomach on display, we then walked in and was hit with a horrid smell of wet dog and the dogs were growling and barking. We were then charged £70 even tho the site says £40. The room had holes in the walls, dirty bed sheets, gone off milk in the fridge and mold in the bathroom, the shower was also zip tied on! During the night we were woken up to someone talking to themselves loudly in the other room at 5am this continued until 9am they were shouting and nothing was done about it. Once we decided to leave we left rather quickly because we were disturbed by what was happening during the night. Again as we walked down stairs the horrid smell of wet dog was still apparent. The outside of the building is worn down and in no good state at all. Overall me and my friends were disgusted with it and wouldn’t recommend to anyone even if desperate! Stay in the car! It would be a better choice.

Phone line was unreachable, immediately noticed the horrible smell of wet dog as soon as the front door was opened. Good thing we were only staying one night before a channel crossing. In the room, not all the lights worked, the dirty sheets, hairs in the bed, holes in the wall, could hear the room next door snoring, mould in the bathroom. Would rather have just stayed in the car.
