Capel Battery opens its doors to a handful of motorhomes in a quiet location atop the White Cliffs, where far-reaching views sweep over Dover to the English Channel and, on a clear day, France itself. War history aficionados will appreciate the thought-provoking Battle of Britain Memorial just five minutes' stroll away.
Sitting in the village of Capel-le-Ferne, the site makes a handy stop for overnighters – 10 minutes from the Port of Dover and 20 from Folkestone's Eurotunnel terminal. Pitches include hardstanding and grass options, some fully serviced with electric hook-ups. Open day at the battery. Nice talk to begin then the opportunity to explore. Lots of work done and plenty to do. Access to some areas not for everyone, especially the ladders down to the plotting room, but good fun if you're able.

Very interesting wartime history. I hope the museum can stay open and go from strength to strength. The bunkers are being cleared out and becoming more accessible to visitors. Some amazing war vehicles are here on open days. I love camping here. Folkestone harbour is in walking distance. Some great walks on the zigzag paths down the cliff to East Cliff Warren and country park by the sea.
