The Hayloft

Forest of Dean

The Forest of Dean offers serious scope for outdoor time: footpaths and bridleways start at the door, cycling and walking trails thread through the woodland, and the river is there for fishing and canoeing. Ross-on-Wye sits 8 miles away; Gloucester cathedral city is 12 miles. A pub, shop and restaurant are 2 miles down the road, and Cheltenham another 8 miles beyond that if you want a larger town.

The Hayloft is a single-storey cottage on a hillside, with everything on one level: an open-plan living and dining space, a kitchen with electric cooker and microwave, a double bedroom, and a shower room. The sitting area has countryside views across to the garden, and there's a balcony with seating looking out over the smallholding. Electricity, bed linen and towels are included. One parking space comes with the property. The entrance involves a steep slope with shallow steps, so note that if mobility is a concern.

The owner keeps sheep and free-range chickens on the land, and makes farmhouse cider using a traditional stone press. Smoking is not permitted inside.

Wow! What a location. Well off the beaten track, ideal for getting away from it all & relaxing. Accommodation is well appointed & self contained. All you need, with cooker, fridge washing machine & microwave. Very clean & tidy, with a stunning view acreoss the valley. If you like walking, there are various tracks close by. Your own transport is essential, as local services are easily a couple of miles away. 5* from me, excellent!
