Lively family camping and glamping near Cheddar, a short drive from Glastonbury
About Petruth Paddocks
Petruth Paddocks sits just outside Cheddar at the foot of the Mendip Hills, around nine miles from Glastonbury, and has built a strong reputation as a campfire-friendly site that welcomes families, groups and scout troops in equal measure. The scale is considerably larger than most sites nearer Glastonbury itself, with extensive grass pitches for tents alongside dedicated caravan and motorhome areas, and the site map splits pitches into distinct zones so families with young children can choose a quieter corner away from livelier groups if they prefer.
Beyond standard camping, there's an unusually varied glamping offer—shepherd's huts, powered bell tents, gypsy bow-tops and even a converted American school bus—giving non-campers a genuine alternative without leaving the same relaxed, sociable atmosphere. Campfires are actively encouraged rather than merely tolerated, and on-site food including pizza and coffee, plus a hot tub for hire, add a few home comforts to what remains at heart a straightforward countryside camping experience. Toilets and showers are well maintained across the site, and dogs are welcome on most pitches, making it a practical base for those touring the Mendips and Cheddar Gorge who want a friendly, unpretentious atmosphere rather than a quiet retreat.

What visitors say
Honestly one of the nicest experiences I have had on a campsite. We only stayed 1 night but will definitely be back. The facilities were spotless and there was a bit of something for everyone. The night we stayed they had a pizza van and taco van in the evening, plus a hot breakfast van in the morning. If that wasn't enough they drove round the site offering/ dropping off a fire pit and wood (for a little extra cost) if you wanted one. Lovely picturesque spot too and a short walk into cheddar, plenty to explore around there. One of our favorite parts was the late checkout (6pm!) for non electric pitches, meaning we could have a leisurely morning when leaving. We can see it being our regular spot for a couple of nights away. Thanks for having us!

This is an almost unbelievably good camp site. It is well organised, the staff are friendly, the grounds feel like they are in the middle of the countryside, but it is so well equipped. There is a bar, there was different street food on both nights and the toilets are well cleaned even though they are incredibly busy. We were very impressed.

Great camp site, very friendly. Lots to do band on at the weekend has a bus bar on-site. Good showers/ toilet regularly cleaned, wash up facility and washing machine. Easy walk to shops, walk to Cheddar and the gorge and close to Cheddar ales craft beer. Highly recommend.

Have been here twice now, great spot in Cheddar. Motorbike friendly with great facilities, shower, toilets and washing station. A little shop at the reception that sells some camping food & stuff (pot noodles, porridge, gas bottles ect). Have food trucks and a converted double decker bus that's a bar onsite. Very family friendly with plenty of stuff for children to do. Can rent a fire pit with wood & matches for £15 (they sell smoore kits at the shop). Really family friendly, have little play area and have always been lots of families there when I've been. Also a local brewery and pizza van nearby if food trucks are shut. Would definitely go again.
