Photo: Turnstone House

Gorleston-on-Sea sits on the Norfolk coast just south of Great Yarmouth, a working seaside town where the beach begins a short walk from the house. The promenade and its gardens lead down to a long stretch of sand used by families, dog walkers, surfers and windsurfers alike. The high street has cafés, pubs and restaurants, and the Edwardian Pavilion theatre is nearby.

Turnstone House is a Victorian end-terrace with three bedrooms sleeping six. Downstairs there is a living room with a 50-inch Freeview television, a separate dining room, a kitchen equipped for cooking proper meals, a utility room with a washing machine, a sun room for quieter days, and a wet room with shower. Upstairs, the master bedroom has a king-size bed accessible through one of two other bedrooms; the second bedroom has twin beds and the third has bunks. A second shower room serves the upper floor. An enclosed garden with seating and furniture opens from the house, and there is parking for two cars on site. Essentials like heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and wifi are included. No smoking.

One dog is welcome free of charge. The property suits families wanting a traditional seaside holiday, though the main beach restricts dogs from May to September—a longer stretch beyond the ravine stays open year-round.

Really nice house, and it's a great location. The only downside is that the smoking area for the Cliff hotel staff is at the end of the drive, and they were not very quiet and it's where deliveries are made to the hotel on a daily basis, not the house owners' fault. Maybe quieter in the less warmer months when the windows are shut.

I like the place, could have rated it 5 stars if they enhance the window with blocking light curtains. The blind they have is not enough. The light still can get thru even after 9 pm at summer, made my 3yo couldn't sleep easily and we had to find a way to block the outside light from coming in. Other than this, this place is magnificent.
