Tŷ ar y Tro

Gwynedd

Tŷ ar y Tro is a characterful wedge-shaped cottage built into the angle between two terraced properties in the village of Ffestiniog. The unusual geometry makes it wider at the front than the back, but the interior is generously proportioned. Exposed slate walls and an open-plan ground floor create an immediate sense of space, while upstairs the galleried main bedroom connects to a smaller single room. The cottage sits in countryside surrounded by Snowdonia National Park, with a pub a short walk away and a wider choice of restaurants within a few minutes' drive.

Two bedrooms sleep three guests, with a bathroom on the ground floor next to the kitchen. Electricity, heating, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are included; initial logs for the woodburner are provided too. The kitchen is equipped for cooking, and there's a courtyard with sitting-out space and on-road parking. One well-behaved pet can stay free.

Ffestiniog village offers a quiet base, though those seeking more active pursuits will find Zip World and Bounce Below—adventure sites built into old slate quarries—a short drive away. The Ffestiniog Railway runs nearby, and the coast at Porthmadog with its extensive beach is accessible for a day out. Smoking is not permitted.
