About Outdoors@Hay
Families, groups, couples, adventure-seekers, bookish types… all are welcome at Outdoors@Hay, a spacious site in the Powys countryside around a mile from Hay-on-Wye. Positioned at the northern tip of the Brecon Beacons National Park and close to the River Wye, the site is linked to an outdoor centre running canoeing and archery activities under expert supervision—perfect for beginners or groups planning an active break together. You'll need to book these experiences ahead, so use the requests box once you've reserved your pitch.
But you needn't sign up for organised adventure to enjoy this spot. It's equally suited to independent explorers: walkers and cyclists can tackle local routes, while a short trip into Hay-on-Wye brings castle ruins, cosy pubs and the famous bookshops into easy reach. Back at camp, the setup is traditional and well maintained, with showers, toilets, a communal fridge and washing-up facilities. Campfires and barbecues are allowed—just raise them off the grass—and the peaceful, tree-fringed surroundings make for restful evenings. Note that stag and hen parties aren't permitted here.

What visitors say
A truly exceptional campsite. The whole team clearly love keeping the place tidy and welcoming. Pizzas are amazing. Facilities in great condition. Mick and Sharon always had time to answer questions - will definitely be back next year! While it's only a 8 minute walk to the Hay Festival site and another 10 into town, the site itself is really quiet and gets beautiful sunsets

One of the cleanest kitchens I have ever rented. Delightful and helpful staff and we had the whole lovely site to ourselves. Showers worked well but looked a little like prison showers. Everything was very clean and working well but the WiFi connection was very slow and flakey. Will definitely be returning.

This campsite is superb, great landcape, shelter and views. Shower and toilet blocks are immaculate and the hosts Mick and Sharon stop at nothing to make your stay fun....even ipening the on site barn for snacks, real ale and ciders ! Hay on Wye is enough a a stroll to warrant a coffee and shop..all of the retail is independant and a joy. Mick and Sharon love outdoor adventure and the opportunities to have these organised for you are just brilliant

What a gorgeous, friendly and well-kept site! We would absolutely love to return for a longer stay in the future. Booked in for 1 night camping somewhat last minute (the week of our trip) which was quick and easy; paid before arrival by invoice (bank transfer). Coming into the campsite after a long day in the mountains was like walking into the gates of heaven: cold beers, comfy couch, hot tea, hot SHOWER, plush grass on a nice flat paddock and everything within a 1-2 minute walk of the pitch. The staff were very friendly and couldn't have been more accommodating. We weren't expecting a breakfast service at a campground and were pleasantly surprised! If they had a few more hearty vegan options, that would have been perfect, but we were happy with our beans on toast. Can't wait to return.
