About The Old Quay House

Hayle sits on Cornwall's north coast, within reach of sandy beaches, St Michael's Mount and the South West Coast Path, and it's here at Griggs Quay that The Old Quay House makes its home. This small hotel has just nine rooms, each en-suite, with sea views from some and free WiFi throughout, plus accessible rooms and drinks available in-room for those wanting a quieter evening in.

The restaurant is a focal point, serving a well-regarded Sunday carvery alongside a broader menu with options for different tastes and dietary needs, and kids' meals for younger guests. There's a bar on site, outdoor seating and a garden to make the most of the setting, plus breakfast each morning. Staff are attentive and the free on-site parking is a genuine convenience in a coastal town where space can be tight. Some guests have found the food pricier than expected for the portion sizes, worth bearing in mind.

Beyond the hotel, the area offers golf, fishing, cycling and walking routes, watersports, and a scattering of pubs and restaurants nearby. Meeting rooms are also available for those combining business with the coastal setting.

We called in while holidaying in the local area. It’s well presented, maybe a little too overdone inside with the painted beams, would have liked to have seen these left original. Quite expensive to what we’re used to but that’s a running theme in Cornwall. Lovely views, great sun trap and chilled atmosphere. Was starting to get busy with food orders as we left so must be a popular place.

Very disappointing, the manager was extremely rude, the food is over priced, two adults and a child over £100 (main and desserts). I had a starter instead of a main and the Pate came with soggy shop brought bread despite the menu saying it was artisan bread. Was charged £4.95 extra for coleslaw which came with the meal on the menu. £8.95 for a homemade pavlova which was shop brought meringue and squirty cream despite asking before ordering and being told it was fresh cream and homemade. We asked for a refund on the two desserts and were met with 10 minutes of the manager and his partner arguing, we are local and will not be retuning again. Very disappointing as the location is lovely and the food has been really good in previous years, but the service and management is appalling.

We booked a 90th birthday party for a Saturday luncheon. Accessibility, decent parking and a play area for grandchildren were additional requirements as well as a menu that could cater to a range of tastes and dietary requirements. Old Quay House and Norbert were great from our recce visit all the way to the event. Friendly and attentive service, good food cooked to request, and support with extras, like cake stands and decorations. The venue was brilliant and tea & coffee in the garden overlooking the estuary made it an celebration to remember. Thanks to all the team at Old Quay House for making the party a great success!
