About Golden Square Touring and Camping Park

Golden Square sits on former farmland at Oswaldkirk, just inside the North York Moors boundary a few minutes south of Helmsley. The site is laid out across three broad terraces cut into a south-facing slope, creating a series of smaller enclosures separated by mature trees and hedging rather than one open field. Pitches feel private as a result, and views out over farmland, forest and the moors beyond are unobstructed from most of them. Around 130 touring pitches cover caravans, motorhomes and tents, with grass and hardstanding options and electric hook-up widely available.

Facilities are the reason this park keeps winning awards. Two heated toilet blocks have underfloor heating and private cubicles, plus an accessible bathroom, laundry, motorhome service point and gas sales. Families get two outdoor play areas, an indoor play barn for wet afternoons, crazy golf, a football field, bike hire and coarse fishing on site. An on-site shop covers basics, and free wi-fi reaches most of the park.

The location is hard to fault. Helmsley, with its castle, walled garden and unusually good food shops, is a short drive or decent walk. Rievaulx Abbey, Sutton Bank and Duncombe Park are all within twenty minutes, and quiet lanes through the Howardian Hills start immediately outside the gate, making this a strong base for cyclists as well as walkers.

What visitors say

The first of many visits. Genuinely gutted we hadn’t found this site sooner, it’s fantastic. The weekend we visited it rained from start to finish-but that dint dampen our spirits. As a family of 4 with 2 kids aged 3 and 6 it’s always great to find a site that has lots to offer and this one didn’t disappoint. As well as 2 play areas, football field, mini golf and indoor play barn this place also has an indoor Padel court. We spent the full day on the Saturday in the drizzle moving around the site and exploring. We tried out both parks, had a kick around on the football area. Listed the indoor play barn and picked up a coffee and cake at the coffee trailer just outside. We looked at the padel court and played mini golf. We ended the day with a walk to the lookout point to take in the amazing countryside views and then finished off with a hot bath which only cost £1 for a full tub. The facilities on this site are superb, ultra clean and very well looked after, absolutely couldn’t fault them. The on site shop is also one of the best I’ve seen open a site, so well stocked with all kinds and the staff were very friendly and helpful. It’s safe to say we will be back again…hopefully in the sunshine!

We recently stayed at Golden Square Caravan Park and had a wonderful experience. The park is very child-friendly, with plenty of space for children to play and enjoy themselves safely. It has a quiet and peaceful atmosphere, making it the perfect place to relax and unwind. The park is also very safe, which gave us great peace of mind during our stay. Everything is exceptionally well kept, from the grounds to the facilities, and it's clear that a lot of care goes into maintaining the park. Overall, Golden Square Caravan Park is a fantastic place for families and anyone looking for a clean, peaceful, and welcoming getaway. We would happily stay here again and highly recommend it to others.

Wouldn't recommend or return. Got given a pitch way too small than what we asked for, then before we even had the last peg hammered in had a staff member come to accuse us of using our log burner and to put it out...erm we haven't even lit anything...showed them we haven't lit anything to be told "oh must be a BBQ I can smell" even though we had previously checked nothing on there T&C's to say we couldn't use an off ground log burner with flue in the first place so making it up as they go along. Advertised as family friendly with mini golf and indoor play area. Didn't pay for the mini golf as absolutely terrible and indoor play area was more like a building site. The site had constant vehicles driving around so was not child friendly at all, felt like crossing a motorway just to get to the play park.

First and foremost, before anything else plan your route to this site carefully and avoid Sutton bank if towing a caravan. This site is simply amazing, from the customer service to the toilets and on site shop everything is fantastic. Two play areas for the kids with one aimed at younger children and one aimed at the bigger kids or even an adventurous adult 😆 if your thinking of booking here, stop thinking and just do it. Bonus points for a little crazy golf area and the absolutely stunning views. Helmsley is very close by and this brings me to the only negative, the shop on site is very well stocked, but it's a convenience as with any of these caravan parks this comes at a cost, £2.20 for a 500 ml bottle of pop. Go to Helmsley for any shopping needs if possible! If you do use the shop it's all very good, locally sourced goods.
