About Gwatkin Red Cow Campsite
Tucked into Herefordshire's Golden Valley near the Welsh border, this well-kept site pairs camping with something truly special: an on-site cider mill and restaurant serving proper home-cooked food. Think Sunday roasts, hearty pies, and hand-cut chips washed down with award-winning local cider – breakfast, lunch and dinner are all covered when the kitchen's open, and there's a shop selling bottles to take back to your pitch.
The 26–50 grass pitches (non-electric) are kept fairly simple but have everything you need: showers, toilets, and space for your barbecue when you fancy self-catering. Dogs are welcome year-round, with nearby walks to explore. From here you're within easy reach of Hereford, the bookshops of Hay-on-Wye, the River Wye for paddling, and the Black Mountains for hiking.
With a 4.8 Google rating, diners consistently praise the excellent value, friendly staff, and that country-rustic atmosphere – though it's worth noting the site keeps things simple on the pitches themselves, so don't expect glamping frills.

What visitors say
Stopped for lunch on a Saturday, all the food was great as was the service. Grabbed some Perry and cider to take away as we left. The pies and the onion rings were especially good. We will certainly be back.

Location… unexpected! On an out of the way country ‘B’ road, you can’t miss it. Great food and service, reasonable prices. Amazing selection of ciders all pressed by the owners and you can try before you buy.

Fantastic food & service... The pies and chips are to die for. The hand cut chips are really home made, not frozen. The service we received was second to none, particularly from Pam. We'll definitely be back again.
