Brampton Hill Farm Cottage comes ready to use: electricity, bed linen and towels are all included, and the kitchen is fitted out for proper cooking rather than making do. You get an electric cooker, dishwasher, fridge-freezer and microwave, plus a separate dining area. Heating is oil-fired throughout. The shower room on the ground floor has a washer-dryer, useful for longer stays.

The layout spreads across two floors. Downstairs holds a living room with TV and DVD player, the kitchen-diner, a single bedroom and shower room. Upstairs are two further bedrooms—one double, one with twin singles—and a family bathroom with a bath and shower. Five people can sleep comfortably here. A small courtyard with patio and barbecue opens from the house, and you have private parking for three cars on site. The whole property is yours alone.

Set on a small holding adjacent to the owners' home and reached by a track, this converted building sits back from everyday noise. The Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons rise in the distance. Hay-on-Wye, known for its bookshops, is close by, and Hereford, Worcester and Gloucester are all within reach for day trips. Shops and a pub are four miles away. No smoking indoors.
