Doward Farm is a seven-bedroom farmhouse in rural Herefordshire near Ross-on-Wye, sleeping up to 16 people across three floors. The property works well for extended families or groups wanting space to spread out; the layout includes bedrooms on each level, from doubles and singles on the first and second floors to additional twins upstairs, plus four bathrooms. Ground-floor living centres on a sitting room with woodburner and a kitchen equipped for cooking at scale, along with utility facilities and parking for four cars on site.
The farmhouse stands on its own grounds with an orchard to the front, patio areas and garden furniture for outdoor time. Children's equipment—travel cot, highchair, stairgate and fireguard—is provided. Wi-Fi, electricity, bed linen and towels are included; there is initial fuel for the woodburner. The property sits down a private lane on the edge of the Wye Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with the Forest of Dean nearby for walking and cycling. Whitchurch village, a short distance away, has a shop, café and restaurants; Monmouth, about six miles off, holds an independent cinema, castle and museum. Smoking is not permitted.

I went there with my partner and 14 of my closest friends and we all had a wonderful time at Dowards Farm. We couldn't understand the negative reviews we have read. Everything worked and we found it to be clean, well equipped and comfortable and we definitely want to come back and stay there again. As for the old cars which line the drive we liked them especially the Chevy Impala. They gave the place a bit of character to add to the charm of the house. The location was also fantastic and we were able to go on a lovely walk to King Alfred's cave and on to Biblins bridge. I thought the landlord was a jolly nice fellow and I got on really well with him.

Please do not fall for the false positive reviews. This place is so awful, you pull down the drive to find dumped cars and trailers taking up lots of space. There is clutter everywhere outside and inside. The patio area which we used for the dogs has junk in it too, so didn't feel safe. Gripper rods are exposed so we caught our feet on them, carpet is threadbare or covered in slippy rugs and carpet sample squares. Makes them dangerous. Everywhere is dusty and doesn't feel clean. They must have cleaned the kitchen floor with turps so it's absolutely stank all weekend and not ideal for the dogs to walk on at all. It smells musty and damp in the rooms, the sofas all need replacing but they are just covered in throws to try and hide everything. Please don't book. It's so cluttered and dirty, not fit for purpose at all. Real shame as it could be somewhere lovely.

The area is lovely and the farm house has huge potential but as with nearly all the other reviewers, I have to agree that the house is very tired and extremely dirty. If it could be cleaned properly and maintenance carried out then it could be a great house to stay in. It seems completely incongruous that there's a note on the fridge asking guests to keep dogs off the furniture and beds when nothing is properly cleaned! Don't walk around in bare feet. My aunt caught her heel on an exposed nail on the stairs where the carpet had worn away so much and the gripper rod was sticking out. I did hammer in any sharp bits and we did find a first aid kit but this shouldn't happen. I note that only positive reviews receive any comments from the owner and nothing ever changes but I have to say how we found the place. Very comfy beds. Lots of parking amongst the numerous "dumped" cars! The downstairs smells damp and this lovely house deserves better. Lots of room for reunions, massive table, plenty of sofas and nice seating at the front of the house.
