Mountain Rise Cottage
Herefordshire, County of
View on Google MapsMountain Rise Cottage dates back to the early 1800s and sits hidden among woodland on the banks of the River Wye. The building has been thoughtfully modernised while retaining its period character, and its rooms are arranged to frame water views throughout. What makes this cottage distinctive is the direct relationship with the river itself: you have private mooring access, can launch kayaks straight from the property, and wake each morning to the landscape rather than glimpsing it from a distance.
The cottage sleeps four across a ground-floor double with en-suite shower, an upstairs king-size bedroom, and a twin room. A family bathroom with freestanding bath and separate shower serves the upper floor. The kitchen diner and snug both look toward the water. Wi-Fi reaches through the house and garden, parking sits on site, and an EV charger is available. Bed linen and towels are provided. Two sit-on kayaks with life vests come with the property, and the river itself offers swimming, fishing (with appropriate licence) and simply drifting. Footpaths begin nearby, local pubs are scattered through the valley, and the seasonal hand ferry is within walking distance. The woodland setting is quiet and set back from roads, though Greggs and other services are accessible in Ross-on-Wye. One well-behaved pet is welcome. Smoking is not permitted.
