If you are visiting Newmarket, chances are it has something to do with horses. So don’t miss the National Horse Racing Museum. 5 things you probably didn’t know about the National Horse Racing Museum in Newmarket: 🐎 1. You can meet a real racehorse up close. 2. You can climb on a jockey simulator and see if you’ve got what it takes. 3. You can grab a coffee, cake or lunch in the café. 4. You can relive the moment Queen Elizabeth II won the Gold Cup. Fittingly, she also opened the museum in 2016. 5. You can even see the skeleton of a racehorse. Bonus: There’s a lovely gift shop if you’re looking for a souvenir. As interesting as the exhibits are, my favourite part of the visit wasn’t behind glass. It was meeting Frank Conlon, who worked as a work rider for Sir Henry Cecil and Sir Michael Stoute. I could have listened to his stories all day. They brought the history of racing to life in a way no display ever could. The people are what make this museum special. Janice gave us such a warm welcome and pointed us towards the highlights. Lesley shared fascinating insights into the artwork of King Charles II and the incredible craftsmanship of milliner Yvette Jelfs. Then there was Frank, whose stories alone were worth the visit. And before you leave, don’t miss the magnificent statue of Frankel. It’s the perfect finish to a brilliant day out.

Wonderful experience for horse people and general public. So much to learn and to see some of the best of the best. It's a working stable so be aware no free roaming guides are brilliant.

We thoroughly enjoyed the visit to the NHRM. Fantastic look into the history of horse racing over the centuries. We also had the good fortune to meet Frank Conlon the former jockey and head lad for a number of legendary trainers. Frank made our day with his stories and knowledge of the industry - thanks Frank Regards Mick Doyle Australia
