Silk Hill Stables

Silk Hill Stables began life as a home rather than a holiday rental, and that domestic quality persists throughout. This single-bedroom conversion sits on a working livery farm with the Peak District's highest point visible from the gate. The whole property is yours alone: a living and dining room with woodburner, a kitchen equipped for proper cooking, one bathroom with spa bath and shower, and a ground-floor double bedroom. Bed linen, towels, electricity and wifi are covered, and logs for the fire are available from the owner.

Dogs are welcome and stay free. The kitchen opens directly into a fully enclosed courtyard garden with seating and a barbecue, and the owner can arrange a separate outdoor run for them on site. Walks start from the doorstep, with Whaley Bridge a short walk away—a small town with dog-friendly pubs and restaurants. The railway station there connects to Manchester and Buxton. There is car parking for two vehicles on site and a bike store. Smoking is not permitted indoors.

We stayed at the converted stables, which is a one bedroom, single bathroom unit. Wow. It is beautiful and you will want for nothing. All facilities are provided and more. Beautiful courtyard, beautiful countryside, excellent hosts. I only wish I good give more than 5 stars.

We have just returned from another wonderful week at Silk Hill Stables – our fourth visit since 2020. Why do we keep returning? Quite simply, it's the most properly dog-friendly cottage we've found, and our anxious greyhound feels safe and happy there. He loves the huge L-shaped sofa, and the secure courtyard garden that he can sunbathe in. Liz is the perfect host – nothing is too much trouble for her. She knows all the local walks and the best dog-friendly places nearby. The nearest town is Whaley Bridge, which is extremely dog-friendly. There are loads of walks to do from the door without having to drive anywhere. At the same time, the cottage is the perfect base for exploring the High Peak area of the Peak District, including the National Trust's Lyme Park, Quarry Bank Mill and Dunham Massey, plus Buxton and Alderley Edge. We love going to Silk Hill for the peace and quiet, and the fact that the cottage is a real home from home. Thank you, Liz!

Lovely homely place, all mod cons, very clean, bed exceptionally comfy, nothing too much trouble for the host, paddock on site is brilliant, for dogs to let off steam, that is made from recycled tyres so not muddy, some basic foods, condiments, tea coffee, sugar, milk, and alot more, a cheeky bottle of wine and cream cakes on arrival, some lovely walks with beautiful scenery, there's a little town within walking distance with takeaways, co-op, pubs, and some other shops, can't recommend this place enough, had a wonderful peaceful 2 week stay, with my husband and 2 dogs, plenty of extras for the dogs, blankets, towels, treats, etc, washing and drying facilities, thankyou for letting us stay will definitely return,x

A lovely, well equipped, very dog friendly holiday cottage, all on one level with an enclosed garden for your dogs, it even has a medium size dog flap to allow your dogs access to the garden whenever they want, an ideal place for exploring the surrounding areas, a short drive to Bakewell and plenty of walks from the property for the more energetic, plenty of shops, pubs and cafes in the village which is a 5 minute walk from the property and all the local supermarkets within a 10-15 minute drive away. All in all we have really enjoyed our stay at Silk Hill Stables and would highly recommend it to anyone considering a holiday in the Peak District.
