Duart

Duart is a genuine castle, the historic seat of Clan MacLean, positioned on a rocky headland above the sea on the Isle of Mull. The restored dungeons and state rooms are accessible to visitors, and the building itself carries the weight of centuries—stonework, furnishings and displays all reflect serious conservation work. Parking is straightforward and plentiful, and the on-site café serves food and baked goods daily.

The castle provides two bedrooms (one double, one twin) and a bathroom on a single level, sleeping four guests in total. The kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering, with an electric cooker, dishwasher and the other essentials. Heating, electricity, bed linen and wi-fi are all included. One dog is welcome at no extra charge. The views across the sea and surrounding landscape are substantial, best appreciated from the large windows.

The castle sits on the Mull coast with shore walks nearby and access to the wider island. Fort William is roughly 8 miles away. This is a working historic property rather than a holiday cottage: you arrive after 3pm and leave by 10am, and smoking is not permitted indoors.

Such a wonderful treasure! It’s amazing how much they have brought back the castle from ruin. The tea room was quaint with some wonderful baked goods. Glad we made the trip to Mull!

Duart Castle is a must visit when you're on the Isle of Mull. The castle is full of fascinating history, and the views over the sea are absolutely breathtaking. We loved exploring the rooms, battlements, and grounds, and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The café was a lovely place to stop for a coffee afterwards. A fantastic day out and well worth a visit.

Great place to visit. Amazing to see what they accomplished by the restoration. Plenty to do if the weather is good or bad. Great view of the bay from the roof, watched the dolphins in the bay for a good half hour..

Beautiful castle, they did a great job restoring it. Was like going to a museum with a great view. Showed up early and took a dip in the ocean just behind the castle. Has a nice café next door as well.
