Harland Cottage

Castletown sits on the far north coast of Highland, where a four-mile sweep of sand at Dunnet Beach begins just 500 yards from the village. Harland Cottage is a single-storey detached property here, a place where couples or pairs of friends can have the whole space to themselves. One bedroom with a kingsize bed, one bathroom with a walk-in shower, and a ground-floor layout that keeps everything accessible.

The living area is open plan, with a leather sofa facing out through French windows to an enclosed garden bounded by dry stone wall. The kitchen is fitted and equipped for cooking proper meals—electric oven, hob, dishwasher, microwave and slow cooker are all here. Bed linen, towels and wi-fi are provided, heating and the first £10 of electricity are covered. There is parking for two cars on site. Dogs stay free and the garden is a natural place for them, though note there are two steps down into it.

The beach itself has sand dunes and connects via woodland paths to walks that leave directly from the cottage. Dunnet is known for surfing and other water sports; the area also offers fishing, golf, and good chances to spot seabirds including puffins, or marine mammals further out. Castletown has a pub with restaurant and a mini-market within walking distance. No smoking inside the cottage.
