Rispond Estate - The Fish House

Highland

Photo: Google Maps

The Fish House sits on Rispond Estate, a remote 200-acre property in an Area of Outstanding Beauty along the North Coast 500. The coastline here stretches to open water and Loch Eriboll, backed by mountains; deer, otters, white-tailed eagles and Atlantic seals are regularly spotted. Ceannabeinne beach, one of the area's most striking stretches of sand, is a short walk away. Durness village—4 miles distant—has a supermarket, coffee shop, chocolatier, a hotel bar and fuel when you need them, but the Estate itself feels entirely cut off from everyday life.

The Fish House is a historic stone building arranged over two floors, with four bedrooms and five en-suite bathrooms sleeping up to eight guests. Upstairs, a generous open-plan living space combines a log-fired sitting room with dining and kitchen areas, furnished with leather sofas and Harris Tweed accents; downstairs, a second sitting room has a TV and DVD player. Two bedrooms have kingsize beds; the other two contain single beds that can be linked into a super-king configuration if needed. Bed linen, towels and wifi are supplied, along with a welcome pack of local produce.

Beyond the house, the Estate offers sea and brown trout fishing (no licence required), while kayaking, sailing and golf are accessible nearby. Walking routes run along the coast and loch shore, with views that reach Ben Hope and Ben Loyal. The property does not permit smoking.
