Campsite in Highland Argyll with shower facilities and direct access to the shoreline.

About Ardnamurchan Campsite

Ardnamurchan Campsite sits on the Ardnamurchan Peninsula in the far northwest Highlands, within reach of the sea and the wild landscape that draws visitors to this remote corner of Scotland. The site offers showers; facilities are basic, which suits those after a simple base rather than a full-service park.

The real draw here is what lies beyond the pitches. The shoreline is accessible from the site, and the peninsula is one of Scotland's last true wilderness areas, home to golden eagles, white-tailed sea eagles and otters. The drive itself—along single-track roads through empty moorland and past sea lochs—is part of the experience. Ardnamurchan Point Lighthouse, the most westerly point on the British mainland, is the logical destination, but the peninsula rewards slow exploration by car or on foot. This is the kind of place to stay if you want isolation, wildlife and dramatic coastal scenery, not convenience or creature comforts.

What visitors say

I pitched up here for a week in June 2026, just as (one of) the heatwaves was hitting the south of England. The campsite is a great wee find, with generous pitches for tents and campervans/motorhomes and some powered pitches too - helpful if you're going to be there for a while. Make sure you request power in your booking if you think you'll need it! The views on a bonny day just cannot be beaten, with looking out to Mull and the Morvern peninsula and the hulk of Ben Hiant keeping an eye over everything from the east. The steep slopes of the volcanic remnants of the Ardnamurchan supervolcano do provide some shelter, but beware that the pitches are level-ish. The campsite is very well drained as evidenced by some ~7cm rain falling on one of the nights I stayed and the tub floor on the tent remaining unsquishy. Hopefully it goes without saying, but being in Scotland also be prepared for midges. The facilities are small and basic (a couple of loos, a couple of showers), a wee kitchen with a fridge, tho' kept very clean by the friendly team of locals that look after the place in-season. If you're at the bottom of the hill, it's a long hike up to the facilities! If you're planning to camp here in 2026, do check whether the local community store is open when you visit (in the community centre), else you *must* bring everything you need (except water) or the nearest store is either a ferry ride to Tobermory or a long 2hr round trip (20miles takes about an hour on these roads) to the jetty shop at Salen. Later in 2026 it is hoped the new fuel station and store will open on the Ferry Road, but this is unlikely to be in time for the 2026 season. This is a great wee place to pitch up and see one of the most remote parts of the UK. Sanna beach is sweeping; Ben Hiant presents breathtaking views on a clear day; the lighthouse is a marvel (cafe and tours in-season are both worth it!) and there are many walks, easily researched, nearby. People do cycle here, but do note it's very hilly and all the roads from here are single-track in every direction for over 20 miles/30km. There is a pub (the Kilchoan House Hotel) which is about a 1.5 miles (2.5km) away that does good food (fish n chip Friday is smashing), but I'd advise you to book as it can get quite busy!

A great campsite in the most fabulous location. Facilities somewhat rustic but everything was clean and the owner very friendly and helpful. The pitches are generous in size and even when it was quite busy, we didnt feel like we had people on top of us like we have done on other sites. The view and access to the beach and water is just spectacular. We like walking so we didnt move our Camper for 3 days. We walked to Mingary Castle for a beautiful lunch, what a treat and we also walked to the ferry to get across to Mull. The immediate surrounding area is fairly flat so if you dont mind walking 2-3 miles each way, its possible to take a break from driving here and really enjoy access to local attractions or just enjoy the view. We will definitely be back.

This is by far, one of the most idyllic campsite in the country. The views are phenomenal, the site is terraced giving every pitch a unique vista and the landscape is unique. The shower block is a little lacking in quantity, so at busy times you have to wait and it’s definitely rustic, but some would say characterful but the they are clean and well maintained. And the real highlight is the wildlife, Sea Eagle, Golden Eagle, Osprey, Otter, Porpoise to name a few sightings and Pine Martin around the sight so bring your camera trap.

Lovely campsite by the shore. Stayed on an electric hook up pitch at the bottom. Only issue was the pitch isnt flat so camping on it led to us sliding when asleep! Toilets and showers clean. Good strong hot shower (no control of temperature). Good dish washing facility in the hut. Local information and useful numbers. Lots of places to visit. Lots of walks.
