Peveril Castle ruins are high on the hill top in Castleton. It looks out over the village and the surrounding countryside. It’s a steep ascent up a winding path, with some stairs, there are a few benches also along the path, but it’s not really suitable for anyone elderly or in a wheelchair. There are no facilities (ie cafe) at the castle itself, but there is a small shop with toilets at the visitor centre before you walk up the hill. There are some picnic benches at the very top if you plan to take your own food. If you are lucky you might catch a glimpse of a kestrel! There’s parking on the road, or at the farm shop in the village, which is a short walk away.

Very very steep climb to the castle. Some deep steps along the way with steep slopes between. Nice shop and friendly staff. A reasonable number of boards explaining what went on and when etc. Not a lot there apart from the keep, with which you can ascend a spiral staircase to the first level only, once there there's another spiral staircase taking you down to ground level, but inside with no exit. We are in our late 70s and although there were a good number of benches to rest on, we struggled. A bit more to see for the effort of climbing would have had a higher score.

Interesting castle! The path way up is steep and challenging but the views from top is truly fantastic. Take your picnic with you then enjoy the view comfortably at the castle ground. No parking lot available on the site, you need to park in the town.

Very steep but breathtaking views once up there. Friendly staff. Plenty of seating on way up and down. Good info pages. Site not wheelchair friendly, though I reckon an all terrain electric chair could get up. Parking in main car park in Castleton. English Heritage. Small shop. Hot and cold drinks. Easy to find.
