About Hazelwick

Hazelwick suits travellers who need a straightforward, unfussy base near Gatwick rather than a destination in itself - overnight flyers, families breaking a journey, or anyone passing through Horley who wants somewhere simple and central. It's a casual hotel on Oldfield Road, and it doesn't pretend to be more than that.

Rooms are en-suite with air conditioning and family options available, plus practical extras like drinks in the room, accessible rooms, and 24 hour reception for late or early flights. Breakfast is served on-site, kids' meals are catered for, and there's laundry service and luggage storage for anyone juggling suitcases before or after a flight.

Outdoors there's a garden, picnic area and outdoor seating, along with an outdoor swimming pool and hot tub - a genuine bonus for a budget-minded stopover. A gym and spa/sauna are also on-site, and business services are available for those passing through on work. Pubs, restaurants and entertainment are all nearby, with a golf course close by too, making it easy to fill an evening before an early start at the airport.

This so-called hotel is a scam. I made a reservation, and when I arrived to check in, they told me they were sorry, but everything was full and they couldn't do anything. After I had driven for three hours, the supposed owner came out, using harsh language and treating us very badly, saying we had to leave or she would call the police. What terrible service and such a lack of professionalism from Ms. Joanne! I absolutely do not recommend this place.

The property itself is very clean, peaceful, and has a nice swimming pool and friendly dogs. The cleaning staff were also very kind and helpful. Unfortunately, our experience with the lady who seems to be the owner or manager was very disappointing. When we arrived, she kindly told us that we could stay by the pool until 4pm on the day of check-out, even though the official check-out time is 10am. However, the situation changed later. The hot tub was not prepared for us, and when we asked about it, she requested an extra £40. We agreed, but instead of properly cleaning it, she just started filling it with water while it was still dirty. We did not feel safe using it. On the morning of check-out, we were cooking breakfast on our own small electric grill, as the provided grills were too dirty to use. Despite her earlier offer to let us stay until 4pm, she suddenly came and told us to leave immediately at 10am, even threatening to call the police. We explained that we had an elderly person (80 years old) and a disabled child with us who needed food, but she still forced us to leave. We ended up eating our breakfast outside on the street. The property has potential, but it needs refurbishment, and the management’s attitude left us feeling very unwelcome. Sadly, we also felt that our treatment was unfair, possibly because we are Lithuanians. For this reason, I cannot recommend staying here.

We arrived with my 80-year-old mother and my friend’s disabled son. At check-in, the woman was very kind and welcoming, which gave us a good first impression. Unfortunately, the rest of our stay was extremely disappointing. The next day, we asked about using the hot tub, and the owner requested an extra £40. However, the tub was dirty and not cleaned, so we did not feel safe using it. The following morning, while we were cooking breakfast, the owner suddenly asked us to leave the premises. We had to take all our food and eat outside on the street, which was very upsetting. To make things worse, I accidentally left my handbag behind. When we came back to collect it, I found it had been left outside the gates by the fence. Instead of contacting us directly, the owner simply dropped it outside, which felt very careless and disrespectful. Overall, this was a very bad experience, and I do not recommend staying at this property.

Sadly our flight out of Gatwick was cancelled (Norse Airlines) two weeks before we was due to leave. We had booked to stay the night before at Hazelwick hotel as was local to airport. As soon as we released we had to find and book another flight the only available flight was Heathrow. I contacted Hazelwick via booking.com and at first they said no refund. Eventually I managed to speak to the hotel owner who offered at 24 month credit no refund under these circumstances I felt let down by Hazelwick who could have been a little more sympathetic under the circumstances even the secure carpark we had booked understood and refunded our fee. So we haven't actually stayed at Hazelwick but I can guarantee we never will. As a businessman myself I look after people and treat each case fairly. Booking.com was just as bad so will never use them again either. I really dont enjoy leaving bad remarks/comments but felt all these people deserved it
