What visitors say
Avon Heath is easily one of the best country parks in the area. Whether you’re looking for a peaceful nature walk, a great spot to walk the dog, or a fun day out with the family, this place delivers. The trails are absolutely beautiful, taking you through stunning Dorset heathland that changes colors with the seasons. A massive bonus is how accessible and well-maintained the main paths are—wide, flat, and perfect for everyone, including pram users and wheelchairs. The visitor center is packed with helpful information, and the staff and volunteers are incredibly welcoming and passionate about the local wildlife. There’s a fantastic, spacious outdoor play area for kids, and the on-site café is the perfect pitstop for a great coffee and a slice of cake after a long explore. Parking is easy, the facilities are always clean, and the atmosphere is incredibly relaxing. We are so lucky to have this right on our doorstep—highly, highly recommended!

The adventure playground is well maintained and keeps children entertained for hours. Loads of peaceful trails and expansive views. The cafe serves nice food. Little bird hide to sit in and watch the birds.

Visitor centre and gift shop just about to close for a refit but loads of info on the wildlife and lovely log burner. Cafe staff very friendly and food recommended 👌. Toilets clean and well cared for. The play area looked amazing for children. Dog wash station out of service because of the freezing temperatures. We did the 3km viewpoint walk and enjoyed the sights on the well maintained and signposted trail. We have marked this as somewhere to visit again when next in the area.
