Craving proper back-to-basics camping with nothing but canvas overhead and the crackle of an open fire? Yomer Wood Camping delivers exactly that on 10 sprawling acres near the coastal village of Lee in north Devon. There's no electricity, no wifi, no digital distractions – just a stream and pond for washing up, a compost toilet, and rainwater-supplied pot-washing facilities. With pitches named after woodland creatures (Dormouse, Badger, Otter), you're more likely to encounter actual badgers, foxes or deer than fellow campers. Campfires are enthusiastically encouraged.
The site sits within the Lee Valley National Landscape – locally dubbed Fuschia Valley when the timing's right – and it's a 15-minute walk to the Devon coast, handy for the South West Coast Path and the sheltered cove at Lee Bay. Do note there's no on-site parking; you'll leave your car roadside about 10 minutes' walk away and hike your kit in. It's wonderfully wild and peaceful, though those seeking creature comforts will find Yomer Wood a touch too rustic for their tastes.
