What visitors say
I thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful gardens surrounding the Inverness Museum and Art Gallery. Although we arrived too late to explore the interior during our one-day trip, the location itself is stunning, offering lovely views of the river and the city. I highly recommend taking the time to stroll along the riverbanks; it is a wonderful way to admire the charming local homes and gardens. Be sure to cross the bridges and walk back along the opposite side—getting lost in the area was a true highlight of our visit. We stayed at the Columba Hotel just across the river, and the entire setting is a must-see. If you are lucky, you might even catch the Inverness Youth Pipe Band playing near the castle on an afternoon, which adds a wonderful ambiance to the experience.

I absolutely enjoyed my visit to this museum. I learned a lot about the history of Scotland and it's people throughout the ages. Neat artefacts. Well-organized. Friendly staff. There's a cafe with snacks and food. Toilets were clean. It's located right next to Inverness Castle so you can kill two birds with one stone, as the saying goes. I totally recommend a visit.

We spent a very enjoyable couple of hours here. Informative and engaging journey through the history and nature of the area, with a mix of historical artefacts, replicas, interactive displays and information. The collection was a good size. Lovely gift shop and cafe where we enjoyed a game of chess, tea and cake and views of the bustling city. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. It's free to enter but donations are welcome to support this lovely place (cash or card and gift aid for UK citizens).

Does the job of a good museum plus it has a wee art gallery. Interesting artifacts over two floors. Lower floor displays mostly related to nature, top floor has historical things about the highlands. An hour would be enough to go through everyrhing. Nothing much in the art gallery, mostly local displays. Free to enter but donations are encouraged. Situated next to castle.
