About Mercure Inverness Hotel

Inverness city centre is where Mercure Inverness Hotel is based, set on Church Street within easy reach of the River Ness and the surrounding sights that make the Highland capital worth exploring on foot. The hotel's position puts guests close to the castle area and the riverside walks towards Ness Islands, without having to venture far from base.

The hotel has 121 rooms across seven floors, including family and accessible options, with en-suite bathrooms throughout and a number of rooms overlooking the river. A lift serves all floors, and there's room service, laundry service and luggage storage for those passing through or staying longer. Some guests have noted that rooms can pick up noise, worth bearing in mind if you're a light sleeper.

Food is a strong point, with a restaurant serving a varied breakfast and a solid dinner menu, plus a bar, snack bar, and packed lunches or kids' meals available on request. There's also a small gym, meeting rooms for business visitors, and a concierge to help with local plans. Fishing, watersports and pubs are all nearby, and on-site parking is available for a charge. Pets are welcome, and the staff have a reputation for being genuinely helpful when it comes to getting the most out of a stay in Inverness.

A huge thank you to all the staff at the Mercure Hotel for accommodating my group's request to change the starter to soup at such short notice. I'm a tour guide, and after speaking with my guests, I realised that many of them weren't keen on the original starter option. I called the hotel in the afternoon and was immediately offered soup as an alternative, even though it had already been prepared. That level of flexibility and customer care was truly appreciated. The dinner was outstanding! The cod was perfectly cooked and served with a delicious cream sauce and fresh vegetables. Dietary requirements and allergies were handled promptly and with the utmost professionalism. The service was quick, attentive and friendly throughout the evening. Everyone was incredibly kind! I really can't praise the team enough. A special thank you to the chefs: Mukesh, Atul, and Raju for preparing such a fantastic meal for my guests. And thank you to the wonderful front of house team: Chantelle, Isla and Akshat for looking after us so well. After a disappointing experience at our previous hotel your team was a breath of fresh air and truly helped lift everyone's spirits. Thank you for making our evening so enjoyable. I would be delighted to return in the future with other groups.

We are Allcor members and loved the room and hotel's location. The breakfast was outstanding!!! Excellent selection of hot and cold foods with lots of seating. Customer serice was great but we had a river view room in July. The outdoor temperatures were comfortable but the room gets direct afternoon sun which made our room extremely hot and humid (28 C) and the window only cracks open and very hot to the touch. We never felt cool except first thing in the morning but we had to leave the curtains open and with the crack of dawn being 4am, it was not easy to sleep. Upon request, we were provided a standing fan but it was not enough. I would recommend booking a room that is shaded in the afternoon sun versus the river view room. The hallways, reception, and restaurant/bar are all air conditioned. Lastly, the wi-fi was in and out so if you have something you must work on, then expect issues. We think this hotel would be great any other time of the year. However, if I were planning a July vacation, I would find a hotel with air conditioning in the rooms. Also, there is no mini-frig.

Our stay at this hotel was fine overall, but I wouldn't stay here again or recommend it to others. The property is older and has clearly been renovated over the years, but there are still areas that feel worn out and could benefit from better upkeep and modernization. Be aware if you're traveling with children, be prepared to book two separate rooms that may not be next to each other. Initially, our rooms were assigned far apart, but after noticing housekeeping preparing a room across the hall during check-in, we asked if we could switch. The staff was able to accommodate our request, which we appreciated. It did mean giving up our second Privilege room, and another guest ended up receiving the welcome gifts left in our original room, but having rooms across from each other was much more important for our family. The biggest disappointment was breakfast. It was honestly one of the poorest hotel breakfast experiences I've had. Breakfast is advertised as starting at 6:30 a.m., but on our first morning there was still no food available at 6:35, and the setup was very slow. Once staff arrived, they seemed to spend more time talking with each other than preparing the buffet or clearing tables. The second morning, we arrived to breakfast later but still got to overhear the latest gossip from staff as they stood around. On the third morning, the same issues continued: there was no bread available at opening, the jelly dispensers were empty, both coffee machines were out of order, and the toaster had blown a fuse and wasn't working. During this time, the staff member on duty appeared more focused on chatting with another guest/friend than addressing these problems. The repeated issues made me wonder whether the underlying problem is a lack of management oversight, staff training, or operational standards. On a positive note, the river views are beautiful, and the hotel's location is excellent. The bar staff was lovely and helpful; we had drinks and starters and it was great. Unfortunately, those positives weren't enough to outweigh the overall experience.

The location is super convenient, close to both bus and train stations. In addition, it’s surrounded by shops, supermarket, cafe and restaurants. The cleanness of the room is good and the snack bar is generous. The room is spacious and there is heating towel rack in the bathroom. The bed is extremely comfortable and the double bed is big. My room is facing the street side which is a bit noisy until midnight mainly from the bars and very early morning when workers collect rubbish on street.
