About The Douglas Hotel
The Douglas sits directly opposite the Brodick ferry terminal, making it about as convenient a base as Arran offers for anyone travelling without a car. The hotel has picked up a run of Scottish hospitality and travel awards for its modern interiors, which mix contemporary design with a distinctly island feel.
Rooms are finished to a boutique standard rare on Arran, and the hotel's bar and restaurant have built a strong local reputation in their own right, drawing diners as well as overnight guests. Its position also puts Brodick's shops, the golf course and the road out to Brodick Castle within easy walking distance.
For a short break built around the ferry timetable rather than a hire car, The Douglas is hard to beat for convenience, and its accolades suggest the quality holds up once guests are through the door.
What guests say
We’ve just had an amazing 4-night stay at the Douglas Hotel in the beautiful Goatfell Suite. The suite was spacious, luxurious, and incredibly comfortable, with stunning views over the Clyde Estuary. The staff were outstanding—friendly, professional, and genuinely welcoming throughout our stay. Nothing was too much trouble, and they made us feel right at home. Breakfast was excellent every morning, with plenty of delicious choices, and we loved that the hotel is so dog-friendly too. We also ate in the bar one evening - once again plenty of choice and the food was delicious. We honestly couldn’t fault a thing. A perfect place to stay when visiting Arran, and we’ll definitely be back. Highly recommended!

We loved our stay at the Douglas Hotel! Upon arriving we were impressed with the beautiful entrance. Lots of plants, flowers and a relaxing fountain. And that was just the beginning of our lovely stay. The rooms were spacious and beautiful. The view from our window of the tropical garden was amazing. Most impressive was the service we received from everyone who worked there. They were so comfortable and accommodating. Breakfast was delicious. The bar was always busy and fun with amazing views of the sea. Lives everything about this gem on the gorgeous Isle of Arran.

Evening meal. Visited. Wednesday 5pm. Glad we were in time to achieve a good table for four at the bay window. Looking out onto the bay and towards Goatfell mountain obscured perhaps by the gleaming over the water. Lovely welcoming staff. Concise menu, mussels sharing could have fed 4. All dishes served were very good. Waiting staff were top class

We visited Arran for a day of walking, but when our ferry was unexpectedly cancelled, we found ourselves needing somewhere to stay at short notice. Thankfully, we managed to secure a room at the Douglas Hotel—and it turned out to be a lucky find. From the moment we arrived, the staff were welcoming and accommodating, making a potentially stressful situation much easier. The room was comfortable, clean, and well-equipped, giving us a chance to properly relax after a long day outdoors. The hotel itself has a lovely atmosphere, and its location makes it especially convenient for anyone travelling to or from the ferry. What started as an unplanned overnight stay ended up being a really pleasant experience. We were genuinely impressed with the service and overall quality of the hotel. If we return to Arran in the future, we wouldn’t hesitate to book here again.
