About Glenforsa Hotel

Glenforsa Hotel sits beside Salen on Mull's east coast, roughly midway between Craignure and Tobermory, with rooms looking out over either the Sound of Mull or the surrounding woodland. It is best known for its own grass airstrip, a rare amenity that occasionally brings light aircraft in alongside the usual car-borne guests.

The hotel runs a bar serving food throughout the day and a restaurant open for dinner, both popular with visitors touring the island as well as residents, and self-catering accommodation is also available on site. Wildlife-watching breaks are a regular feature, given the hotel's position on the water and the sea eagles and otters frequently seen along this stretch of coast.

Its central location makes Glenforsa a sensible stopping point for exploring both ends of the island without committing to either Tobermory or Craignure as a base.

Amazingly friendly service and a unique view by the airstrip. Super super nice to our dogs. A pity about the food. We had a cheeseburger and Caesar salad. The burger was ok but not great, a bit tough and with just a handful of fries. The Caesar salad was ridiculously small for a dinner portion, with a handful of overdone chicken bits as a £3 add-on. Couldn't tell if they were croutons or chicken. A burger and a pizza cost the same at the upscale hotel restaurant up the road, so it's not even cheaper. Burger, salad and two ciders were just shy of £50. And the place could use a good spring cleaning. Dust and cobwebs. Nonetheless they were slammed with business, clearly a fave with lots of people. Maybe we just had bad luck.

The reception and service we received here was fantastic. As walk ins, they found us a table straight away and looked after us brilliantly. Our waitress, Caroline, was attentive without being over bearing, and was extremely pleasant and helpful. A credit to the Hotel. The food was excellent, freshly cooked and beautifully presented. We are genuinely sad that we arnt staying here instead of on the mainland.

We stayed at the Glenforsa Hotel as part of our trip with Mull Wildlife Breaks (5*, btw!). The hotel is well-located for getting all over the island, and there is a bus stop at the end of the drive (buses not tested by us, but it's there!) The hotel has a strong log cabin vibe, set in a wooded area and overlooking a beautiful bay where, if the weather is in your favour, you can watch a beautiful sunset from the bar and lounge. The food was good, with substantial breakfasts and dinners and a good choice on both menus. We didn't try the bar menu, but it also looked good. After all that, what really makes this hotel special is the staff! They are a small team, so welcoming and so helpful, and couldn't have been kinder when a member of our group had a medical emergency. Special thanks to Caroline and Klaudia, but everyone was great. Thank you for a great visit!
