About Kinloch Lodge
Kinloch Lodge stands at the foot of Kinloch Hill on the tranquil shoreline of the sea loch Na Dal, in the wooded southern peninsula of Sleat. It has been a Macdonald family home for centuries and a hotel for around fifty years, and the two identities have never quite separated — guests are received into what still feels like a private house, with fires lit in the drawing rooms and portraits of clan chiefs on the walls.
The kitchen is the reason many people come. Founded on the cooking of Claire Macdonald and now run by a team building on that legacy, it works almost entirely from Skye and the surrounding waters: langoustines and scallops from the local boats, island lamb and venison, foraged coastal greens. The restaurant has carried a string of accolades over the years and remains one of the most serious dining rooms in the Highlands. Whisky flights, a well-chosen cellar and an unhurried pace round the evening out.
Bedrooms are split between the original lodge and a newer wing, all individually decorated in soft Hebridean tones with loch or hillside views. It is about ten minutes from the Armadale ferry and forty from the Skye Bridge, which makes it a natural first or last night on the island, though most guests end up staying longer than planned. Walkers can start straight from the grounds; the Cuillin are an hour north.

We stayed at the Lodge for 3 days in May 2026. Our room was wonderful with breathtaking views of the Sound of Sleat right out our front windows. The setting; living room areas; food and staff were all exceptional. Each meal was a great experience. Trails along the water were fun and gorgeous. Staff made us feel like family and so comfortable. Wonderful stay. Luke, Rita, Katie and others were all so helpful. Kudos to all.

Absolutely delicious tasting menu! Everything was so fresh, delicious, and so perfectly presented and prepared. Also, the cocktails were amazing. Finally, the service was top notch. We were visiting and read great reviews of Kinloch Lodge - so very glad we enjoyed a very special meal while visiting. Thank you!

We had a lovely vegetarian lunch at Kinloch lodge last week. The staff were very attentive and friendly, the setting beautiful and the food and drink delicious with a strong emphasis on locally produced and sourced. Would highly recommend.

Very disappointing visit. You spend the dinner surrounded by children making the atmosphere feel more like a pub than a fine dining establishment. We tried the duck, the ravioli, the lamb, the chocolate ale cake, soufflé, and cheese board, all of which were various degrees of disappointing. The duck was extremely unseasoned but cooked well. The ravioli was completely tasteless and slightly watery with the predominant flavour being that of mushroom and nothing else, not even salt. The lamb on the other hand was too salty, again with not much flavour beside that. The chocolate ale cake was very boring and the soufflé was extremely eggy. The cheese board felt like something you could buy from Waitrose for £5, nothing local, nothing described or explained, and the presentation was very haphazard. The gimmick of a new menu every day seems like an obviously bad idea or at the very least, is beyond the current chef’s abilities - it is clear why the Michelin star is no longer there. The staff were the only redeeming quality, all of whom were very friendly and polite. Particularly Danny at the front desk (apologies if that is incorrect) who was very understanding and provided satisfactory compensation for the experience. Not worth the money, better to go to the three chimneys for a nice meal on the Isle of Skye.
