About The Wheatsheaf Hotel & Restaurant

The Wheatsheaf Hotel & Restaurant sits on the green in Swinton, a quiet Berwickshire village around nine miles north-east of Kelso, and has built a reputation among Borders visitors as much for its kitchen as for its rooms. The property offers a small number of executive and superior rooms alongside standard doubles, several of them dog-friendly, all finished with en-suite bathrooms, deep-pile towels and good quality cotton bed linen, along with Corbie Cottage, a two-bedroom property next door suited to families or groups.

Dinner is served across three distinct dining areas each evening, drawing on Borders produce and a strong seafood offering, and the lounge bar is a comfortable spot for a drink before or after a meal. Two electric vehicle charging points and private dining facilities are available on site, and the surrounding countryside offers walking and cycling routes straight from the door.

While a short drive from Kelso itself, Swinton's position makes the Wheatsheaf a good choice for visitors prioritising a serious meal and a quiet village setting over walking distance to the Square, and it works equally well as a stopping point for those touring the Berwickshire coast and the wider Borders alongside a stay in Kelso.

Came across by accident when looking for an evening meal. Staff really helpful when trying to negotiate accessability. Very well presented, food was really good. Conservatory was quiet and a nice temperature which helped after a hot day. Was lovely to speak to our server who was a fellow crafter. Will definitely be back.

Excellent food and service. Great breakfast. Value is outstanding although slightly out the way location. Good choice of beer/wine. Well worth a visit to use as a base to tour.

The hotel is well appointed, comfortable and warm. The soft furnishings are very tasteful. The bedroom was spotlessly clean and cosy. We enjoyed the home baked shortbread and bottled water on the tea tray in our room. All the staff are friendly and helpful and the breakfast menu was excellent and the food was good.
