About Cockin Farm Campsite
Tucked into farmland near Kendal, Cockin Farm Campsite offers a refreshingly low-key escape for campers who want simplicity over bells and whistles. The site welcomes campfires and dogs, and its mix of grass pitches for tents and campervans—all non-electric—suits those happy to rough it a little. Facilities cover the basics: showers, toilets, drinking water and waste disposal, but there's no wi-fi, so you'll need to embrace the off-grid vibe.
Open year-round, it's a practical base for exploring the southern Lakes. A Blue Door glamping cabin adds a touch of comfort if canvas doesn't appeal. The setting is peaceful, the welcome warm, though don't expect frills—this is farmland camping at its most straightforward, best suited to guests who appreciate space, stars and a crackle of woodsmoke over polished amenities.

Absolute hidden gem! STUNNING location! A complete off grid beauty on a working farm, amazingly friendly and at a perfect space giving also for a total getaway, owners were above and beyond, willing to help with ALL (had a motor issue and they completely saved the day!!!!) Beautiful seeing all the animals and so close to our pitch, sheep (&lambs), cows, horses and a beauty of a big brown pig (which I forgot to ask the name of - what a character!) and chickens to name a few! Great facilities, super hot and powerful shower with gels provided. Kettle and power points if needed. Kitchen area all clean and more than what was expected from being so off-grid. Fantastic walks! Amazing setting! Completely recharged my soul 🥰😎🙌🏼 Thank you for a super stay!😎🙌🏼🐶

The location is absolutely stunning, and there are plenty of good walks nearby. The owners seemed to be nice. However, there were one or two gripes. I think £20 per night is a bit steep given the facilities. The toilet block was relatively clean but stank to high heaven. They are some sort of macerating toilet but the smell was something else! There’s no water to wash your hands in there either, just hand sanitiser. The steps up to the toilets are crooked and wooden and surrounded by rubble and rocks hidden in the grass. The steps were treacherously slippy after the rain last night and despite noticing this, I still slipped and bruised my ankle, which could’ve been a lot worse! The showers and washing up area are clean enough, but there’s only cold water to wash up. Showers were decent. The campsite is in a very sloped and uneven field, and it’s hard to find a flat spot for a tent or van. It was peaceful with everyone being respectful. Yes there is noise from sheep, but it’s a working farm. We had a great time here, but there is room for improvement, especially the toilets. Also fyi, the drive up to the site is very narrow with few passing places, and you’re a very long way from a pub or shop, so bring your own provisions.

I have just returned home from a 3 night stay at Cockin Farm in the Blue Door Shepherds Hut. What a fantastic find with such lovely owners. Set in a scenic spot with views all around and many walks directly from the campsite - I highly recommend the Lower Borrowdale walk on their website, just remember decent walking shoes, it can be boggy. The shepherds hut is brilliant, with a decent sized fridge, cooking equipment, as well as a very comfy bed. I hope to return soon - thank you!
