About Fairy Bell Wood

Deep in four acres of native Cumbrian woodland, this enchanting off-grid retreat offers just one beautifully appointed yurt in a private clearing. The insulated canvas shelter sleeps two in kingsize comfort, warmed by a wood burner (logs included) and powered by solar panels that run lights, USB points and even the shower. Outside, hammocks sway between the trees, a wildlife pond attracts dragonflies and deer, and the summerhouse provides a cosy bolt-hole with sofas and sunset views.

Cook over the firepit or use the yurt's gas hob and well-stocked kitchen. The composting loo and shower (heated on the hob) complete the back-to-basics setup. Bring a good torch – the path can be muddy and those famously dark Cumbrian skies, while perfect for stargazing, offer little ambient light. Kendal's shops sit ten minutes away by car, but once you're settled into this peaceful woodland hideaway, you may struggle to leave.

Idyllic and magical. We had the woods, the pond, the bluebells, the views, the nesting bluetit, the sound of the Cuckoo, the dawn chorus, the perfect sunset in a hammock - to ouselves. And a cozy warm yurt for comfort.

An absolute haven of peace and tranquility. Tucked away from anywhere, with outstanding views of the valley and hills. Treated to nothing but the sounds of bird song. Stayed for 4 nights and thoroughly enjoyed every second. The yurt is beautifully laid out, very spacious. Log fire soon warms the place up, even in the early hours, but it maintains the heat so we'll. Bed is very comfy. Kitchen has all the necessaries to cook and prepare meals, with the outside fire pit and tripod cooking grill also allowing us to have burgers etc. Fresh water supply and the shower, once youre used to getting the balance of boiled water / cold water right is ample to freshen up. Very easy access to Kendal, and then Windermere area. Highly recommended to all that want to switch off from the outside world for a few days.

Absolutely perfect! The yurt itself is stunning, so beautifully made and furnished. The surrounding area is completely picturesque and the place is so private. It chucked down rain on one of our days there and so we lit the fire and played board games, it was so cosy we weren’t even upset we couldn’t go out for a walk that day. It’s a short drive to Kendal centre and only about 30 minutes to Lake Windermere. Perfectly located for getting out and about but still having a really secluded place to stay. My partner and I were looking for a short break to unplug and forget our daily stresses and I couldn’t imagine a more perfect place for just that. I’d recommend it to anyone and we plan on going back for my birthday next year!

Amazing little place. Absolutely perfect for a lovely peaceful getaway. The yurt is the only one there with woodland surrounding it, making it great for a relaxing time. The yurt had everything you needed and was extremely comfortable. Will definitely be back in the future!
