About Kirkgate House

Kirkgate House is a family-run guesthouse in a 17th-century building on Kirkgate, in the heart of Knaresborough and just two minutes' walk from the railway station. It has built a loyal following among visitors arriving by train, thanks partly to that location and partly to a genuinely warm welcome from its owners.

Each room has its own en suite shower room, and breakfast is served in a light, pretty dining room with a choice of traditional Yorkshire, vegetarian or vegan options, catering well to different diets without treating any as an afterthought.

Its central position puts the Market Place, castle and riverside all within easy walking distance, making it a practical base for visitors without a car. The combination of period character, personal service and a genuinely central location has made it one of the more consistently well-reviewed small stays in the town.

Amazing, warm and friendly Yorkshire welcome at this B&B. I enjoyed a cosy stay. Great nourishing home cooked breakfasts and friendly hosts. The bedroom was immaculately clean, hypoallergenic bedding and perfect location. A stones throw from local coffee shops, bakeries and beautiful views of Knaresborough. Highly recommend. Really appreciated the gluten free treats🙂

A big thank you to Karen and the team. Super hosts and such lovely people. Karen, just wanted to tell you that your kindness and hospitality was amazing. As a result, I have got to say that this was one of the best guesthouse stays we have had. The room was specious and well appointed, the bed was as comfortable as anything I have slept in. The furniture was of good quality and the bathroom was good too. Oh, and spotless! The breakfast was so good and the little courtyard was beautiful. Located on a quiet street but literally 50m from the shops, bars and restaurants and about 100m from the railway station. Just a simply beautiful guesthouse run by beautiful people and thank you for our cards, so thoughtful. We will be back and we will be recommending to others

Stayed here last night and every thing is as it says, superb location and unbelievably quiet, room was immaculate, and some lovely little touches like 2 bars of diary milk and a 2 humbugs along with tea, coffee and biscuits. The owners were very friendly and polite. The breakfast was very tasty and plentiful. Alround we had a excellent stay and will definitely be going back 👍👍👍
