Hogwood Cottage

North Yorkshire

View on Google Maps

Castle Courtyard sits at the heart of a market town with independent shops, cafés and direct access to riverside walks. Hogwood Cottage occupies a quiet corner here, a stone building dating from the 18th century with its own enclosed courtyard—a genuinely private retreat despite the central location. The cottage takes its name from Elizabeth Hogwood, aged 19, whose name is inscribed on a windowpane dated 1907.

Inside, the ground floor holds a living room and kitchen with a gas oven and hob, plus a walk-in shower room. Upstairs is a double bedroom. Electricity, bed linen and towels are included. The cottage shares its entrance with one other property, but once through, it's yours alone. Gas central heating keeps things warm, and there is a patio area for sitting out. Note that wi-fi signal is weaker inside the cottage itself.

The location works well for those exploring the ruins of Knaresborough Castle, the viaduct views, or the walking routes through Nidd Gorge and across the moorland. The Old Royal Oak is within easy reach. You can reach the train station on foot. No smoking is permitted inside.
