About Pelham House
Pelham House occupies a substantial Grade II-listed townhouse on St Andrews Lane, close to Lewes Castle in the heart of the town, with parts of the building dating back to the 16th century and later Georgian remodelling giving it its current grand facade. The 29 ensuite bedrooms are spread across the main house and a separate mews building, and combine period features such as exposed beams and fireplaces with contemporary furnishings.
The hotel's private walled gardens, unusual for a property in the middle of a busy market town, are one of its main draws, with a terrace and outdoor bar used for dining and drinks in the warmer months and views out towards the South Downs. An in-house restaurant and bar serve residents and visitors, and the house is also a well-known wedding and events venue, which is worth bearing in mind when booking around a weekend date.
Its location a short walk from the High Street, the castle and Cliffe Bridge makes Pelham House a convenient base for exploring the town on foot, while the gardens and period interiors give it a country-house feel rarely found this close to a town centre.

What guests say
My wife and I visited for a wedding. The hotel is very nice & the staff are lovely. It's a very small compact hotel but it has some lovely features. The hotel make use of every area really well. The garden at the back is a great area & the BBQ is a really nice touch. One of the staff members who really stood out was B. She actually approached us & took the time to have a chat despite being very busy. The food was lovely. We were well looked after from the time we arrived to when we left. We didn't stay but the rooms we saw looked very presentable. The only downside is the parking hence 4 not 5 stars. You can't park at the hotel but there is plenty of parking near by. The train station is the option most use as it is fairly close and not too expensive compared to other options. All in all, it was a lovely hotel with attentive staff & good food.

We definitely made the right choice when we booked our wedding at Pelham House. The venue is so beautiful and is even more so when decorated. The food, drinks and service provided were outstanding from start to finish. From the initial planning all the way through to the day itself, the team did everything they could to help us have the most amazing wedding day - which we did! We highly recommend this fantastic wedding venue and we will be returning in the future to remember our special day at one of their chefs table events. Thank you so much Pelham team!

We held our wedding at Pelham House in June 2026 and I could not have imagined a more perfect place for us to have been married. Staff: The staff at Pelham House really truly serve with their whole hearts. We were extremely well taken cared of by our event coordinator, Lynne, and the rest of the team throughout the day of our wedding. You could genuinely feel how much everyone truly wanted to make the day special for us - you can't fake that sincerity and joy. They truly went above and beyond. For that, we are so grateful. During the weeks leading up to our wedding day, Lynne was really on top of everything and was THE MVP. She made me feel like I was in really safe hands and I could fully trust her in executing my vision on such an important day. On top of that, she was a delight to work with and was extremely kind and lovely to our families and friends. She is a gem and should be treasured always!!!!!! Food: It has now been three weeks since our wedding and our friends and family are still telling us how much they loved the FOOD. As massive foodies (and all of our friends and family know this), it was very, very important to us to have good food served. Our expectations were extremely high, but wow were they blown away! Particular highlights that our friends still speak of were the beef wellington main course and champagne sorbet surprise course as well as the smoked salmon and lamb canapes! We highly recommend these. The Building: Can we talk about how STUNNING the venue is? When we first entered Pelham House for the first time, we feel in love with the ceremony room (so intimate and classy), the bar area that goes into the stunning garden (highly recommend an early summer wedding like we did because we spent so much time outside enjoying how beautiful it was) and the ballroom (which was a wonderful size for our group of 60 people). I loved how no room is too far away from each other - everything feels so cohesive and easy. Having enough rooms for all our guests to stay was also extremely convenient. A few of our guests told us the next day that it felt like a fun sleepover! Location: My husband and I live in London (although he is originally from East Sussex). With the exception of his immediate family, all of our friends were travelling into Lewes from London and abroad to attend. Nevertheless, the very close location of Pelham House to the train station made it so easy for our guests. This was one of the key factors for us and we loved how convenient and central to Lewes this wedding venue was for all our guests. Conclusion: We did consider "similar" venues in London (which would have been more convenient for our guests and ourselves!) but none compared at all to Pelham House. I would choose this place over and over and over again, and I could not recommend it more highly. Thank you, Pelham House. I am so grateful for the life-long memories and for the most wonderful wedding experience I could ask for.

We had our wedding there in June 25 and it was absolutely amazing. The team were really friendly and helpful, they really took a lot of the pressure off of us. We were lucky enough to be offered to book the night before which really helped us with the set up and meant some of our guests could stay the evening before. This was incredibly helpful. The venue itself is beautiful, the scenery is stunning and the service was brilliant we couldn’t fault it. All of our guests loved the food and people keep telling us how fun the day was. Lastly, the additional events they put on was a great addition for us we loved meeting the other couples getting married there.
