About Guilford House Hotel
Guilford House Hotel has only 14 rooms, making it one of the smaller options for anyone wanting to base themselves in Bloomsbury. It sits on Guilford Street, within reach of the British Museum, and offers something unusual for central London: free on-site parking, alongside a garden and a bar for guests who fancy a drink without leaving the building.
Rooms come with en-suite bathrooms and air conditioning, and breakfast is included as part of a straightforward bed and breakfast setup. The hotel also has a restaurant, free WiFi, luggage storage and a laundry service, plus basic business facilities for those travelling for work. Staff are on hand at reception around the clock, and the owners have a reputation for being welcoming, which suits guests passing through for a night or two. It's worth noting that upkeep in the rooms has been inconsistent, so this is a better fit for those prioritising location and price over polish.
Beyond the hotel, the surrounding streets offer plenty of pubs, restaurants and other eateries within walking distance, along with nearby entertainment options. For a short, central stay near one of London's major museums, Guilford House Hotel covers the basics without pretending to be more than it is.
What guests say
Great location. Rooms were marginal at best, extremely dated but clean and handy to Kings Cross. Breakfast was included but literally cereal and milk with a hot water urn and a jar of coffee on the table you shared with whoever else's staying. So bad we found it comical. If you just want a bed, it would suffice

If you love big bathrooms, spacious rooms, or luxury amenities, this might not be the place for you. It’s a basic bed, a very small bathroom, and it can be noisy when people talk outside your door. However, it’s totally fine for a short stay. On the plus side, you’ll love how close it is to everything (bus stops, the British Museum, etc.). The owners are friendly!

Absolutely grim. Not cleaned in months. It was 2 stars in the 60s but not now. The bathroom is an old airing cupboard and anyone over 5 stone won't fit in there. The windows wouldn't close. My disabled mum struggled down to the basement room with no hand rail and dodgy carpets. Hairs in the bed. Mould all over the bathroom so couldn't shower. My mum slept in her coat rather than use the blanket. Not cleaned after previous occupant.

I booked this hotel in a pinch, and it is ideal for a last-minute situation. They have someone at the reception desk 24/7, and the worker was super kind when I stumbled in cold and exhausted at 2am (I foolishly thought I could walk London for an overnight layover). The room was fine, a little run down, the bathroom was literally next to the bed and you had to step up into it. Given that I only stayed for 4.5 hours, it met the very basic needs that I had. I would not choose to stay there for vacation, but for a short night was fine.
