Lee Valley Campsite, Sewardstone

Sewardstone Rd, London E4 7RA, UK

Four-star campsite on the Epping Forest edge, around 12 miles from central London

About Lee Valley Campsite, Sewardstone

Lee Valley Campsite at Sewardstone occupies an unexpectedly green corner of the capital's fringe, tucked between Epping Forest's ancient woodland and the sweep of the King George and William Girling reservoirs. For a site within half an hour of Liverpool Street, the outlook feels genuinely rural: pitches face water and trees rather than rooftops, and the forest boundary starts where the campsite ends. It holds a four-star Visit England accreditation and offers a broad spread of pitches—grass and hardstanding, electric and fully serviced—alongside woodland cabins and insulated cocoon pods for anyone not bringing their own kit.

Facilities cover the practical bases (heated showers, launderette, shop with hot drinks, cycle hire, playground) and most visitors appreciate the convenience and green setting. Some note the site can feel a little tired in places, and prices edge higher than more remote parks, but the location does most of the heavy lifting. Epping Forest's six thousand acres and the Lee Valley path network run straight from the gate, making this a surprisingly useful year-round base—it closes only in February—for anyone wanting woodland on the doorstep without giving up easy access to central London.

Good location, regular bus stop by the entrance. Works really well if you want to spend time in central London. Facilities were clean and tidy. Staff were pleasant. However I had to complain to reception one morning about a dog running around off the lead, it was also loose while the woman took it with her to do her washing up; dog was wandering about alone by other’s pitches at other times. But the next day the woman just continued to let the dog run loose and the campsite staff appear to have done nothing and are OK with this. So don’t leave anything outside when you are not at your pitch.

Lovely stay in a cocoon whilst commuting in and out of Enfield this week, however disappointing to see not all guests follow the clear rules from the website. Walking back from the small shower block at the front of the site I was surprised to see an Ocado delivery van driving through, a clear breach of the FAQs listed on your website. Reception was manned at the time but no one stopped it, worrying that guests are dishing out their gate entry codes like this. The cocoon was very comfortable and despite being near the front of the site the noise level from the road wasn’t too much of an issue. I only used the smaller shower block at the front of the site but found there to not be any issues with cleanliness and the water pressure in the showers was very much adequate for my needs. Would happily stay again.

Stayed here in a tent for 3 nights and found it a nice, quiet, relaxing break, laundrette and washing up area was spotless, shower was nice and hot and worked well, the toilets was clean, the site was well maintained and reception staff was friendly and helpful, there’s loads of cute little rabbits running about and lots of different birds, there’s a small woodland walk at the back, and there’s a bus that stops right outside entrance which takes you to Walthamstow Central where you can link up to underground, the site is in a good location, the only bad things I found was field A where I was pitched is close to main road and the ground was hard in some areas for pegs, but other than that I thought it was a pleasant place to stay and will be booking again in a few months, would recommend this place, the prices are reasonable and the site is clean and tidy and well organised:)

We had a lovely time at this site this weekend. We came and hired a grass pitch for camping as well as hired a fire pit. We felt welcomed immediately and the facilities were great. They had a shop, toilets, showers, laundry room, drinking and waste water and a toilet draining area for caravans. We also used their woodland trail and walked up to Gunpowder park. Overall, we had a lovely time and we will definitely be back soon!
