About Ilford Grand Hotel

Cranbrook Road runs through Ilford as one of the area's busier streets, lined with shops, pubs and places to eat, and this is where the Ilford Grand Hotel sits, close enough to Ilford train station to make central London an easy trip. It's a practical base for anyone wanting to explore the capital without paying central London prices.

The hotel has 76 rooms, each with an en-suite bathroom, flat-screen TV, air conditioning and drinks available in room. Family rooms and accessible rooms are available, and there's a lift serving all floors. Some rooms are on the compact side, but they're kept modern and well-equipped. Free WiFi runs throughout, and staff can help with luggage storage and laundry service during a stay.

There's no parking on site, so guests arriving by car will need to make other arrangements, though the location near the station suits those travelling by rail. A restaurant and pub or bar are both nearby, along with further eateries and entertainment, and a golf course is within reach for those wanting to venture a little further. Staff are consistently noted as friendly and helpful, and the hotel is generally considered good value for the area.

King bed advertised but was two twin beds shoved together, with seam in the middle. Mattresses extremely firm. Needs a good scrubbing, especially the carpet, which actually should be replaced. Something disgusting found that was missed by the cleaners or an event in the room which happened after cleaning, not pleasant. Internet is fast and good. Walls need touch up paint. This is ALMOST a good hotel, e.g., German shower fixtures, quality elevators, modern look and feel, rooms fairly spacious. Needs cleaning, real king beds or double beds, be honest about the bed size. Breakfast was croissants from a grocery store, the kind you buy in a bag off the shelf, rather than from a bakery. Wide selection of milks and cereal. American coffee in a drip pot. Breakfast room is in the basement, with one small window, rolls of paper towels on each table, cafeteria style tables. Keep trying and improving!

I booked a room at this hotel as I needed somewhere to change and rest between events. Check in was quick and smooth. I was really impressed with how the receptionist dealt with the very difficult customer before me. The room was perfect as it was a good size, clean with all the amenities that I needed. My only additional request would be to add a hook to the back of the bathroom door and a hand towel.

I'm more than disappointed with their service, there's no standards. They falsely advertise free booking / pay at hotel, but when you book, they send a messaging scaring you to pay now or the booking will be cancelled. It's been over a month that I've been asking them for my funds back which they don't even reply to. When I call they're extremely unorganised and unprofessional. Most the time they don't answer. I have requested Booking.com to remove them from their site as they're not capable of maintaining basic standards, nobody knows what's going on, and the employees don't seem to have basic training. No one there seems to know how to run a hotel. Stay away.

I booked a trip to London for my partners Birthday, when we got to Ilford Grand Hotel and walked up to reception on Friday 1st May about 8:50PM the first guy we met at the reception wasn't really nice to talk to I don't know his name, but he looked and it felt like he did not want to be there. Upon arriving, he pulled out an Card Machine, which left us confused, as we had paid for everything online and I have read absolutely everywhere I could to see if there were any HIDDEN CHARGES, I couldn't find anything about it. Whatever. we paid it, £40 just to avoid arguing there, but I asked him to show me where exactly It stated we've to pay a deposit, he said "under house rules" whatever that means, I have no clue and couldn't locate this anywhere. If anybody can correct me, please do. But anyway, I don't think the guy that was working there at that time should even be there in the first place. If the owner of the hotel is reading the reviews, just know this affects the reputation of your company and should be dealt with. - This was the first encounter we had in this hotel and I don't think it should be this way. Later that evening I met another guy at reception which was way Friendlier and had a smile. I asked for his name, he said that it was Gilbert, so please give that man a raise, at-least he was very friendly and had a smile, I spoke to him about the deposit and he said it was a normal thing here, and other hotels charge £100-£150 deposit and there are apartments that charge £300 deposit, but he at-least explained everything and that £40 isn't that expensive for the place. which I totally get, I explained to him that it would be at-least nice to know before arriving that the Fee is there, which he seemed he understood. but I understand it's out of his control. But if anybody reading this review can change this. please do let everyone know that there is a deposit fee prior to entering your room. The Room was small but all we needed was a space to sleep so we didn't really mind it, the view we got was also at the back facing some sort of school yard so nothing special but again, It was a space to sleep. The Room had Air conditioning which was very nice, a TV with Netflix and YouTube, I was just not comfortable logging into my own Netflix on a public WIFI so we watched YouTube at night time. Also a couple getting ONE keycard is a very cheap decision to do I am a smoker so ofcourse I have to go outside, once that keycard is out of the slot, the electricity turns off shortly after. so the partner is stuck inside without any lights. Two keycards at minimum or an option of a second one would be nice. also I had to go to the shop a few times too, and if I was in any danger and had to get back into the hotel, It wouldn't turn out good, after-all it is London. The Room was clean when we walked in which is good to see. we also found out that we had breakfast included, which we didn't know prior to arriving, also was not stated anywhere on the receipt or online. I believe everyone gets breakfast though, I believe it's from 7AM to 10AM It was only cereals, Fruits, Coffee and Tea. which was still nice and unexpected, can still get you started in the morning! Overall Summary - -The guy that was there at the front desk needs an attitude adjustment. -DEPOSIT OF £40 SHOULD BE NOTIFIED BEFORE ARIVAL!!! -The Rooms are fine if you're just going there to sleep and rest. -One Keycard is not enough for a couple unless you're always together. -It's a fine hotel if you're just going there to sleep. -Elizabeth Line is Close-by. This is my review of the Ilford Grand Hotel. It is an 2.5/3 Star hotel at it's best, I would've rated it higher if the first guy at reception spoke to us nicely and explained everything like he should do instead of getting frustrated with us and couldn't answer simple questions nor show us proof of where it showed that there was supposed to be a deposit paid on arrival. SHOUTOUT to GILBERT for explaining everything in a professional manner and at-least with a smile!
