About Mitre House Hotel

Mitre House Hotel suits visitors who want to be near the centre of London without paying central London prices, particularly anyone travelling by train, given its position close to Paddington Station and within reach of Hyde Park. With 69 rooms, it works well for solo travellers, couples or groups looking for a straightforward, no-fuss stay rather than a luxury break.

Rooms are simple, and some are on the small side with older-style furnishings, so it suits guests who prioritise location and price over modern design. Breakfast is served on site, and there's a restaurant and bar for evening drinks or a meal without needing to head out. Free WiFi covers the property, and there's a garden for a quieter moment, plus meeting rooms for those combining the trip with work. Luggage storage is handy for early arrivals or late departures, and free on-site parking is a genuine bonus for a hotel in this part of London.

The staff are consistently mentioned as helpful and welcoming, which counts for a lot when the rooms themselves are more functional than stylish. Sussex Gardens puts guests within walking distance of pubs, restaurants and other eateries, with Paddington Station close enough for easy access to the rest of the city and beyond.

I recently stayed at this hotel during my vacation in London. As expected for a property housed in older architecture, the building has a historic charm, and the rooms are on the smaller side. However, this is quite typical for many hotels in the area and part of their character. What truly stood out was the excellent service. The complimentary breakfast was a wonderful start to each day, and the staff in the breakfast room were warm and attentive, making sure guests were well taken care of before heading out. The front desk team was equally impressive—friendly, accommodating, and professional. A special mention to the staff member with glasses (apologies for not catching her name), who kindly replaced our bath soap promptly when I mentioned an issue. The location is another major advantage—just a short walk from Paddington Station, making it incredibly convenient to get around London. There are also plenty of restaurants nearby, adding to the overall convenience. All in all, I had a very pleasant stay and would gladly recommend this hotel for its service and location.

I stayed in the mitre house hotel from May 22nd to June 2nd (during the evil heatwave) and here is my most honest review. First and foremost, the staff are truly wonderful. We had an extended stay, coming and going quite often, and everyone we chatted with at the front desk was lovely and very accommodating (they also have free mints, which is always nice.) There was never a single problem with leaving our keys at the desk, as it was manned at all times. (It was also nice knowing I couldn’t accidentally lose the hotel key) The rooms were exactly what we imagined they would be. The bed was comfortable, the fan worked just fine, and there were more than enough mirrors so two people could get ready seamlessly. The bathroom did fine for the basic needs, I will say the shower was quite small, but it worked and had hot water, so not a huge deal. The location can’t be beat, genuinely. Paddington is right around the corner making transit super easy, great shops and multiple grocery stores in the area, and Hyde park is just down the street. Our stay at The Mitre House Hotel was very pleasant, and we will 100% be staying again next time we are in London 👍🏻👍🏻

Hotel is great value for money. Comes with free breakfast and parking which is rare in London. Only minutes away from Hyde Park and Paddington station so the location is amazing. Convenient parking right out front, and the free breakfast was really good. We stayed in a two bedroom family suite. Rooms were ok but definitely dated, and pne of the blankets was stained. It has a unique shared Bathroom setup for the two rooms but it also has a door accessible to the hallway, and while it was lockable, just felt odd. Wish they had the room lock on the outside door rather than the two bedrooms and the bathroom. For the price, location and free parking/breakfast, I would definitely consider a return visit.

I’m confused why there are so many overwhelmingly positive reviews (which we trusted and is why we booked here) while there are some small pros, overall I did not enjoy my stay here. The positives - location is great, staff is friendly and accommodating but that’s it. Several reviews mention an amazing breakfast, while it was nice to have it included - you needed to be up early for it, and it was average at best. The hotel is so old (which we knew and expected) but not in a charming or comfortable way - the hallway smells like moth balls, floors are extremely creaky and uneven, dirty carpet, old springy bed, ancient bathroom and bedspread. Nothing has been updated and it feels kind of gross - while I’m not looking for a sterile, white, modern room necessarily, the hotel could make the effort to replace the terrible carpet, bedding and update the bathroom even slightly! The bathroom was so crammed you can hardly fit between the shower and the sink to reach the toilet, which also needed to be flushed 4 times to work. No A/C, and pillows were hard as bricks. Lastly, I had all of my cash stolen from my wallet in my room - when addressed with the owner he continuously denied it and tried to blame me for misplacing or spending it. I knew I was going to have to take the loss with cash being untraceable, however the lack of respect and accountability left me with a sour taste in my mouth. The appropriate response would be to apologize and insist on investigating, though he refused to acknowledge the potential that any staff member would do this. The owner is so unprofessional and cannot take any criticism or negative reviews, to which he responds being excessively defensive and insults his guests. I’m looking forward to the reply to my review! Steer clear of this place!
