A 10-room hotel above a traditional pub in Hackney, London, close to Victoria Park and Broadway Market.

About The Old Ship

Hackney's mix of canalside green space and market streets sets the scene for The Old Ship, a historic pub-hotel just steps from Victoria Park and Broadway Market. The building keeps its traditional pub character downstairs, with ten guest rooms above offering a quieter base from which to explore this corner of east London.

Rooms come with drinks available on request, and the on-site restaurant and bar handle food and drink from breakfast through to evening meals, including Sunday roasts and burgers alongside a solid range of beers and cocktails. Staff are consistently described as friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere is a welcoming one, though some guests have noted that food doesn't always arrive as hot as it should. A garden gives extra space to sit outside, and free WiFi, laundry service and free on-site parking are all included.

Beyond the front door, Broadway Market and Victoria Park are within easy reach, alongside further pubs, restaurants and entertainment nearby, making it a fair option for anyone wanting to be close to Hackney's eating and drinking scene rather than in central London itself.

We had an amazing stay! The bar staff and all the staff at the hotel were very polite Lila and Hope at the bar were Amazing. They helped us navigate through London and we’re very attentive.

Chose pub due to good reviews but experience wasn't great. Starters appeared freshly cooked, plentiful and tasty. However the Sunday roast was very poor. Reheated dried out roast potatoes barely able to cut with knife, reheated Yorkshire pudding and chunks of fatty tough reheated beef. Service friendly but slow. Very disappointing 😞

Arrived promptly at opening time 12pm, as we were seeing a show at the Hackney Empire at 1pm. The young lady who served us ( shoulder length shine black hair, sorry didnt catch her name) was a delight, efficient and attentive to our needs. She advised the chef of our time scale and food arrived within 20mins as promised.. Food was correct temperature, well.presented and best burger and chips we had in a long time. Good quality meat, and perfect amount of sauces and garnish, chips were also delicious. Wish we lived nearer so we could visit regularly!

Wow! What an experience, on arrival we were greeted so warmly, as if we were family! Great food but what stood out to myself and my partner was the service. Our host and server Mollie couldn’t do enough for us, attentive but not overbearing. A pleasure from start to finish, will definitely visit again when we are in the area.
