About The Watermans Arms
Walk into one of the eight rooms at The Watermans Arms and you get a compact, straightforward base rather than a sprawling hotel experience - drinks are available in the room, and staff are on hand around the clock at 24 hour reception if you need anything, from extra towels to help storing luggage before or after your stay.
Downstairs is really where this place earns its keep. The restaurant and bar turn out a menu that runs from small plates to a proper Sunday roast, with crispy pork belly and generously sized Yorkshire puddings among the favourites, and breakfast is served on site too. There's a garden and outdoor seating for warmer days, while the interior has a cosy pull in winter, and the atmosphere throughout is friendly rather than formal.
Set at 1 Glenaffric Avenue in London, the pub sits close to the Thames and within reach of a DLR station, making it an easy stay for exploring Canary Wharf and beyond. Other pubs, bars and restaurants are nearby too, so there's no shortage of places to carry on the evening once you've had your fill of the in-house kitchen.

Lovely overnight stay. Our room was lovely, the staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was delicious. It was a short walk to the DLR so easy to access travel to other parts of London. A really nice stay. We would definitely come again ☺️

This is our most favourite local pub! Love coming here for a pint and the occasional meal! Special compliments to the chef — they always get the balance of heat and flavour just right! Loved their jerk chicken and gochujang burger. I always get a gourmet experience without all the fuss.

My wife and I came here for Sunday lunch on 14th June. We are local, but had two Spanish friends with us, one that had never sampled a traditional UK Sunday Roast before and wanted to try. It had been recommended to us by a friend of a friend, so we thought we would have a nice experience. I booked the table two days prior specifically for Sunday roast, we arrived at the pub early; the staff were aware of this as my I went in to the pub as soon as we arrived and notified them I had a table booked. When our Spanish friends arrived, we went in to order our food, we were told there wasn't enough meat of our choice to service all 4 of us. Why couldn't they have told us that when we arrived and or rung in advance? they had my phone number. The pub was empty, just a family with a small child, which seemed odd, as it was a nice day, the sun was shining, I expected it to be busier. The fact there wasn't anyone else eating, you wonder why a pub that offers Sunday lunches couldn't cater adequately for 4 people. When the food arrived, we started to eat our roast beef, but it was disgusting. It was as hard as leather and the carrots were not much better. There was a pile of Kale though and that was like cardboard. The meals came out very quick as well, so I suspect it was re-heated. To top it all off, when we got the bill, they had added 12 and a half percent and this was after I had complained. We were totally embarrassed that we had suggested this venue to our Spanish friends. Since that experience we have looked at the reviews in even more detail and people have had similar experiences, one being a year ago and one it appears recently, so it hasn't improved since then. Very disappointed I informed Joel I believe his name is? Had I realised the £10.50 tip they automatically took I would have declined paying that.

My partner and I have been coming here for a while as it’s our local pub, which makes this even more frustrating to write. The food quality has been steadily declining, but today’s experience was one of the worst. I was served a £17 veggie burger that was genuinely one of the worst things I’ve had in a long time. It bore little to no resemblance to what was described on the menu and was completely unacceptable at that price point. What made the situation worse was the manager’s handling of the complaint. Rather than addressing the issue properly by offering to remove the item from the bill, she tried to brush it off by offering a free dessert, which entirely missed the point. It felt dismissive and showed a clear lack of basic customer service skills. I had to explicitly state to the server that I would not be paying for the burger but only the drinks. The only positive in this experience was the server, who was polite, understanding, and professional throughout—something the manager could learn from. Unfortunately, after this experience, I won’t be coming back.

People say this pub offers delicious Sunday roasts, with highlights like crispy pork belly and huge Yorkshire puddings, and an elevated menu with flavorful small plates. They also highlight the friendly and welcoming staff, and the cozy vibe in winter with lovely outdoor seating in summer. Others mention the convenient location near the Thames and a DLR station, and good meal deals on certain days.
