About Britannia Hotel Manchester
Britannia Hotel Manchester suits anyone after a low-cost bed within easy reach of the city centre, whether that's a quick business trip, a weekend away with friends, or a family stopover that doesn't need to break the bank. With 390 rooms across five floors, it's a large operation, and the building itself has real character, having been a handsome historic structure long before it became a hotel.
Rooms come with en-suite bathrooms and in-room drinks, and there are family rooms and accessible rooms available for those who need them. Breakfast is served on site, along with a restaurant and bar for evening meals and drinks, plus kids' meals for younger guests. Practical extras include a lift, laundry service, concierge, and meeting rooms for anyone combining business with the stay. It's worth knowing that some rooms show their age and can be tired around the edges, and service standards vary, so this is one for guests who prioritise price and location over polish.
Portland St puts guests within walking distance of pubs, restaurants, and entertainment, with a golf course also nearby for those wanting to venture further out. There's no parking on site, so anyone driving in will need to plan for that separately. Pets are welcome, which makes it a workable choice for those travelling with animals.

A Major Disappointment – Avoid if Possible I recently stayed at this hotel and it was one of the most disappointing experiences I’ve had. From the photos online, it looks charming and well-maintained, but the reality inside is completely different. The exterior gives a good first impression, but the rooms are outdated, poorly equipped, and uncomfortable. There is no air-conditioning at all — only a small fan that barely moves the air. During my stay, this made the room stuffy and unpleasant, especially at night. There’s also no mini-refrigerator in the rooms, which is a basic amenity I expect even at budget hotels. The attention to detail was shockingly poor. They provided an ironing board in the room but no iron. Instead, guests are expected to share a single iron kept at the reception desk. Waiting in line or coordinating with other guests just to iron clothes is ridiculous and inconvenient. Overall, the hotel is at a very good location, the heart of the city but the hotel failed on basic comfort and service. The facilities were substandard, and the lack of essential amenities made the stay miserable. I was so disappointed that I checked out a full day early and found somewhere else to stay. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Save your money and look for a property that actually delivers on what it promises.

Very old looking hotel, really nice tho, seems fancy for the cheap price I paid both times. Had both a double and a single room and this location before, the double room was spacious and lovely. The single was small, more cramped but not a bad experience by any means. Just a big difference between the room types. Great location in city centre!

Amazing hotel. Rooms extremely clean, staff was amazing. Looks very authentic inside. Give you alk the information at start of stay. The key cards for room are easy to use. As for the location you walk out the front door and turn right or left and you have city nightlife. Shops across the road and a short walk to Manchester chinatown. Would highly recommend

Beautiful hotel. Customer service was great, checked in quickly and offered us a lower floor room as it was so hot. No air con so if it's hot the rooms get pretty sticky but there was a fan which did help. Didn't eat in the restaurant but it looked lovely. Bar was well stocked and the bar staff were very polite and friendly.
