About Whitworth Locke

Manchester's city centre mixes arts venues, business districts and transport links within easy reach of each other, and Princess Street puts Whitworth Locke right among them. The hotel has 160 rooms designed for both short breaks and longer stays, each with a kitchenette alongside the usual en-suite bathroom and in-room drinks, making it a practical base for anyone who wants more than a standard hotel room.

Rooms are spacious and well-designed, with useful extras that suit guests staying beyond a night or two. On site there's a restaurant and bar, a gym, lift access, free WiFi, luggage storage and concierge services, plus childcare available for families who need it. There's no parking at the property, so it suits guests arriving by train or on foot rather than by car.

Staff are consistently helpful, and the location is a strong point, with pubs, restaurants and entertainment all nearby and public transport close at hand. It's a straightforward, well-run option for exploring Manchester without needing to travel far from the door.

We stayed here for nearly a week in a one-bedroom suite while working remotely. While the location is convenient and the staff were friendly, I felt the hotel didn't quite live up to the 4-star experience it advertises. My biggest disappointment was that the property seems to market itself as being well-suited for longer stays, but in practice it wasn't particularly comfortable for that purpose. Storage was limited, with only a couple of small drawers and very little space to unpack clothing, so we ended up living out of our suitcases for the entire week. We also didn’t have nightstands by the bed. The room itself was quite dark, with poor lighting throughout, and felt both cold and stuffy due to limited air circulation. The bathroom lacked an exhaust fan. We could hear music from the lobby in our room, the hallways were often noisy, and despite not being directly on the main street, there was still frequent traffic noise and sirens. Overall, the experience felt more like a trendy co-working-style accommodation than a traditional 4-star hotel. That said, there were positives. The bed was comfortable, the room was reasonably clean, and every staff member we interacted with was pleasant and helpful. I don't think it's a bad place to stay, particularly for a short visit if you know what to expect. My disappointment came from the gap between the experience that was advertised and the experience we received. For the price, I expected a higher level of comfort, maintenance, and functionality.

The rooms are a little dim and airless but big and spacious plus beds were ultra comfy. I want to thank GULLY + MIKE - this incredible pair are an ABSOLUTE credit to Locke Hotels. These rockstars looked after me when I fell ill out of the blue. Immensely grateful to them and Luca too, I can't thank them enough

Carlos and Laura provided outstanding customer service throughout my stay. He was friendly, professional, and always happy to help with any questions or requests. His warm welcome and attention to detail made the experience feel truly personal. It’s clear he genuinely cares about guests and goes above and beyond to ensure a comfortable stay. Gregg is a real credit to the hotel, and I hope to see him again on my next visit. Highly recommended!”

Stayed in the summer. Hotel has no aircon and the communication with hotel is made via WhatsApp which makes it more challenging when you need a quick response. Room are not equipped with bottled water either. Lift wasn’t also working so had to carry my luggage up 3 flights of stairs
