The Marlborough

We had a lovely stay. The room was excellent, dinner was delicious and the staff were friendly throughout. The only disappointment was the bar bill. We ordered our drinks at the bar ourselves, yet an automatic 12.5% service charge was added. The bill for a double Talisker and a double limoncello (£30.38 including the service charge) also felt expensive compared with every other pub and hotel we visited during our trip through the Cotswolds and southern England. When I queried the service charge, I was simply told it was correct, without any explanation or offer to remove it. It left us with an unnecessary sour note at the end of an otherwise excellent stay. Following my review, the General Manager contacted me personally, apologised and confirmed that this was not normal procedure and should not have happened. She also assured me that the team would be made aware so it does not happen again. I really appreciate the professional and honest way in which my feedback was handled. Because of that response, I would happily recommend The Marlborough Inn and would certainly consider staying here again.

Had a lovely Sunday lunch here. Bit on the pricier side but was definitely worth it. Didn’t stay over night so can’t comment on the accommodation. My only issue was the atmosphere - there was a man at the bar who kept staring at us while we ate which made us feel like we were in a zoo! Later thought he may have been the owner? As the staff didn’t seem to pick up on his strange behaviour.

Visited The Marlborough as a countryside escape from London for a proper Sunday roast — and it did not disappoint. The food and drinks menu was excellent, and we thoroughly enjoyed both our meal and the accompanying drinks. Highlights included the Southcott English sparkling wine, a Rioja Gran Reserva, and a cheeky but brilliant recommendation from Hannah, the assistant manager — a Rumbana Old Fashioned. The roast beef was perfectly pink, with spot-on potatoes and a beautifully done Yorkshire pudding. We also had the chance to try a new addition to the menu: a delicious rum baba — absolutely divine. The staff were attentive without being overbearing, striking that perfect balance. The venue is also animal-friendly, which is a lovely touch, and we were told they’ll be opening rooms in the coming months following refurbishment — definitely a reason to return..

We came for lunch, having seen the enticing adverts with great illustrations on Facebook. We chose the prix fixed menu and were not disappointed. Imaginative and delicious recipes: I hope these continue. The interior of The Marlborough also is wonderfully atmospheric.We will certainly return.
