The Sherlock Holmes Museum

Sherlock Holmes Museum was simply wow. To stand at 221B Baker Street is truly a dream come true for any fan of the great detective. From the moment you enter, you are welcomed into a brilliant merchandise store that immediately sets the tone for the visit. I ended up buying quite a few products myself, including a miniature Sherlock Holmes violin, which was a lovely souvenir from the experience. The visit continues with a charming introduction by Victorian police officers in full costume, which adds to the atmosphere and makes you feel as though you have stepped back into the world of Sherlock Holmes. The first floor is arranged as a guided tour, where you get to see the famous living room followed by Sherlock’s bedroom. Every room has been carefully put together to reflect the world of the stories, and it is easy to lose yourself in the details. Upstairs, you can see Dr. Watson’s room, Mrs Hudson’s room, and even the room connected to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, which gives the museum a broader sense of history. One of the highlights is seeing the busts of the many famous actors who have portrayed Sherlock Holmes over the years, which is a nice touch for fans of both the literary and screen versions of the character. The museum may be small, but it is absolutely worth every penny. There is so much to read, see, and learn that it feels far richer than its size suggests. It is one of those places that leaves a lasting impression because it brings fiction to life so vividly. Definitely worth a visit.

Excellent little museum that will really appeal to Sherlock Holmes fans, situated in an early 19th century townhouse that's been laid out with tremendous care to faithfully recreate the atmosphere of Holmes' Victorian home. The museum offers an immersive experience, from arriving outside to be greeted by a traditional "policeman", to exploring the atmospheric rooms rich with period decoration and furnishings. The guide was enthusiastic, engaging and happy to answer questions. The upper floor houses an exhibition, covering the background behind some of the best known stories, and the different actors who have played the role over the decades. The museum is open 09:30 to 18:00, with last entries at 17:30. I'd recommend allowing about an hour to get a good look at all the rooms and fully appreciate the details. There's a gift shop downstairs stocked with Sherlock Holmes themed memorabilia. At the time of our visit in early 2026, adult tickets were about £20, with small reductions for concessions. It's not cheap, but the attention to detail and enthusiasm of the guide meant it felt like we got our money's worth. Few museums I've visited have given such an authentic feeling of exploring a period property, doubly impressive considering this one was only ever fictional!

Love it! Step into the world of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and immerse yourself in an era of mystery, deduction and wit. The museum does a superb job of bringing both the period and the Sherlock Holmes stories to life, with fascinating exhibits and plenty of attention to detail. A thoroughly worthwhile visit for fans of the books and anyone interested in Victorian London. I would recommend booking tickets in advance, as it can be very busy.

As a longtime Sherlock Holmes fan, visiting the Sherlock Holmes Museum at 221B Baker Street was an absolute dream come true. From the moment I stepped inside, it felt like stepping into the pages of Conan Doyle’s stories. The museum is beautifully maintained, with rooms recreated to reflect the Victorian era, from Holmes’ study with his iconic violin and chemistry equipment to Dr. Watson’s cozy quarters. Every detail is thoughtfully curated; the furniture, the old books, even the tiny artifacts and personal items make you feel like Holmes could walk in at any moment. The Musuem guides give a thorough description of each valuable item of each room. The museum also has interesting exhibits on the history of the detective stories, and the gift shop is full of unique memorabilia for fans. Standing outside the famous address and imagining Holmes and Watson solving mysteries felt surreal. This museum is perfect for fans of all ages, offering a mix of history, literature, and immersive storytelling. Ending my one-day London trip here was the perfect way to connect with a character who has inspired generations. Highly recommend for anyone who loves Sherlock Holmes!
